I know, that is properly configured since day one. As I said, it worked for a week or two, then it stoped working without me changing anything. The problem is in their side, not mine. Proof: my .fetchmailrc is dated Dec 9, and it stopped working in the afternoon of Dec 14 - I keep detailed logs; see: Dec 14 14:18:57 it worked. Dec 14 14:20:31 it did not. <===== Dec 14 15:54:14 it worked again. Dec 14 15:55:57 same. Dec 14 16:04:43 same. Dec 14 16:06:34 same. Dec 15 11:27:25 didn't work. and never worked again. It may be because GMail is still actually in development and is possibly subject to changes. They may be minor or major changes. Have you tried contacting Google about it? I googled, found some people reporting the exact same problem, and I know some contacted gmail without being answered. There is no mention of such a problem in gmail help, faq, whatever.
I know, not easy :-(
It is not utterly important, this tiscali account works better than gmail, but I was testing it as a possiblity. It has some snags (aside from this pop3 problem), like that it identifies as duplicates mails sent diferent ways, like from the list and direct: I only see the direct copy, the one from the list is discarded. Another snag is that downloading is slow, but if I can not download email, it is completely useless to me. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDsy5mtTMYHG2NR9URAl57AJsFtvTk8uJqXoK+A380aHMLOqRoOQCeNve8 jx8b31El/SqKyXOA4tFgNDU= =kT8D -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Nothing new there. There is a fine guide at gmail site. I wish I could make myself understood... :-( I repeat that it worked, then it stopped working. There is nothing wrong with my configuration. Unless that page mentions the exact error I'm seeing, it is useless.

Still no solution here.
I have not found any mention of this in gmail help either.
Ditto, I also contacted Gmail on 29 November and have yet to receive a responce. Personally I don't think POP access is a priority for Gmail - they make their money from ad's, which you don't see with POP.
How about you people? Any clues, pointers?
I finally gave up and deleted 20MB of the 22MB of backed-up mail in my Gmail account. The last 2MB I archived and then, with an empty Gmail inbox, I sent a message to myself from my Mighty account. I then tried to download it from Gmail - it worked for the first time in 26 days. I managed to download mail. I then let some list mail in (no attachment, nothing funny) and tried to download again. Nothing, lockup - same error message as above. Remove, try again. Send myself mail, download - success. Possibly. But some providers also send publicity in the email (it says so in the "contract"), or separate emails. It's interesting to note how many hit points they get from Spam Assassin ;-) I had to white-list them, my conscience was itching a bit :-p
