Hi,
Somebody convinced my to try gmail, and so I got a gmail account. I configured fetchmail to get the emails, and it worked for some time. I was testing it on this list, some may have noticed my change of address during a few days. Then, suddenly, without changing anything, it stopped working with this error message:
Dec 20 14:08:47 nimrodel fetchmail[15825]: POP3< +OK [SYS/TEMP] Due to a temporary system problem, this mailbox will seem empty.
But this "temporary" error hasn't changed since Dec 14, when it started. I have googled, and found an email thread in "debian-user" ([OT] Gmail POP fails), with some people reporting the exact same error even earlier than me, with diferent email configurations, but no solution. I have not found any mention of this in gmail help either.
How about you people? Any clues, pointers?
Yesterday it started to work, suddenly. I swear I didn't touch it :-) Jan 20 20:11:00 nimrodel fetchmail[1094]: POP3> PASS * Jan 20 20:11:04 nimrodel fetchmail[1094]: POP3< +OK Welcome. Tiscali downloads at 3-5 Kb/s. That hasn't changed. The SYS/TEMP problem seems to be related to the webmail configuration, "POP Download" settings; now it shows: |> 1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 12/6/05 While POP wasn't working, the date was empty, and I could not change it: it was not saved when I clicked in the "save" button. I got an answer about this on 2006-01-09 from Gmail Team, with a suggestion related to the above, but I didn't see it till yesterday. I suspect they did something, but I still haven managed to download the whole gmail inbox due to its slowness. Maybe there is a further comment for me to read. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFD0uR9tTMYHG2NR9URAuoTAJ4xkcuB6uGIMkyzsUnK5koqt1O2jwCeMUSl 6QZKEwJgdme8Jk5hTcmjHFc= =jnqh -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
