Is anyone using a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) PCI card with openSUSE? If so, which cards? If so, which versions of openSUSE? Is 42.3 too old to expect to have had drivers for these types of cards? -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not with openSUSE, but with Debian. We used to have the StarTech Dual ones (Part# PEXUSB312A, PCIe) to connect our PtGrey Grasshopper cameras. Was a somewhat older Version of Debian, so I'd expect them to work nicely with oS, too. Meanwhile we replaced the mainboards, so I only have them lying in the shelf. If you need to be sure I can put them in one of my oS machines and have a try (either 42.3 or TW) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

We are expecting a Flir LadyBug5 to arrive any day. I will try to see if I can have it work on openSUSE. Given my problems with a Chameleon, I'm not 100% optimistic. But it is a different library. Failing that it will be either Ubuntu or, gasp, Windows,. But I want to start with openSUSE. With a 3.1 Gen 2 friendly kernel and associated tools. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Good luck with that! I had a quick test. The 42.3 machine (kernel 4.4.126-48) does see the card on the PCI bus, but doesn't connect/initialize an external SuperSpeed SSD. On Tumbleweed this works. I read some mentioning that you's need at least kernel 4.7 for proper USB 3.1. So if it's 42.3 you'd need a kernel-of-the-day or something. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I've read the same. The current kernel on OBS is 4.18. I'm hesitant to upgrade to that on my work machine. I need a machine I can reinstall for that test. I would imagine that it will also require updates to various user-land USB stuff as well. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
