[opensuse] Upgrading from 10.1 to 10.2 with conflicts
Hi, I try to upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 however I cannot get past the package conflict stage. There are a lot of conflicts and I try to resolve them. However there are only two possible outcomes: a) The whole installation crashes and is restarted. b) I get an empty conflict list with three options: "Ok - neu prüfen" (check again) "Experts" and "Cancel". The Experts option writes a file to the filesystem. The "OK" option checks something and then lets the empty list reappear again. I cannot use cancel because the installer does not let me past this stage with open conflicts. What is the best way to resolve this issue? A new installation is always recommended, if possible. Have you installed packages from other repositories, eg. Packman? This could be the reason you are not able to go past the conflict resolution stage. If you have packages from third-party repositories, check out this URL: http://en.opensuse.org/Updating_SUSE_Linux. You will need to make sure that you update and enable *all* your repositories in the Yast "Installation source" module (if you have used any of the Build Service repositories I would suggest to disable these until the update is complete). Please note the warning at the top of the URL I mentioned: Back up your existing system first. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you tried to upgrade, the upgrade starts, and it chrashes, you can no longer try to upgrade: the status of the system will be unknown, mixed, and probably broken. You have to avenues: 1) restore the full backup you should have done before starting the procedure and try the upgrade again or 2) install fresh. If you didn't made a backup, then backup what you can and install fresh. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Thanks for your answers. I somehow got past the conflict resolving stage. I've cancelled the conflict list, applied an "Update to the newest version" to the whole list and then could close the whole packet selection dialog. The whole package replacement took then 3 hours (two hours longer than the fresh install of 10.1) but it succeeded. Now the system looks ok. I am testing whether everything still works.
