[opensuse] Printer Problem
(OpenSUSE 10.2, Printer = HP deskjet 6122) Something has gotten corrupted in my printer chain. It prints all Firefox output in Landscape, for instance. I decided to try using Yast to reconfigure my printer. While building a new database of drivers, the progress bar got to 4% and then stopped. This happens every time I try it. During one attempt, I let it run for an hour and a half. Each time I had to use Force Quit to continue. Does anyone have any insight into what may be the problem or, better, a way to fix the problem? The IRS will appreciate it. :-( -- Donald D. Henson, Managing Director West El Paso Information Network The "Non-Initiation of Force Principle" Rules

It sounds familiar: search this list archive and you will find it, I think. Meanwhile, is your sytem fully up to date? I think the bug was corrected. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I think it's up to date. I'm using 10.2 and am set up for automatic updates. This problem just appeared. I've been using the printer for a couple of years and the only problem I've had is with the Firefox print bug you refer to. That one was fixed. My main concern right now is that Yast cannot build a database of drivers. Do you have any thoughts on that? By the way, I have searched the archive. I found a lot of references to printer problems but nothing that sounds like my problem. Donald D. No, I'm refering to the bug with yast printer database, it is known and reported. But I see Darryl pointed you in the right direction already :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Try this: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229231. To rebuild the printer database, run: rm /var/lib/YaST2/printers rm /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Try this:

rm /var/lib/YaST2/printers rm /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp
That worked. Thanks. I must admit that I didn't search bugzilla but I figured that a google search would find stuff in bugzilla. Oh well. Many thanks.

It's been a very common problem with 10.2, reported many times on this list. I keep the list on my system (dating back to 2005), so it was an easy thing to search it. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
