installation appears to choose wrong resolution?
I'm doing an installation with ssh+nfs - on the boot menu, the resolution defaults to 1280x1024, which looks fine, but once the installation gets going, my monitor reports "out-of-range", and shows no picture. To get it to work I have to manually reduce resolution to 1024x768. I haven't reported this yet - it's not really important to me, but if anyone thinks this is important, I'll be happy to open a bugreport. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org
I have experienced this issue and reported this as a bug several versions ago. There was nothing they could do. In my case the monitor could manage 1280x1024@75Hz. I think using 1280x1024 from the installation menu also applied 85Hz refresh, which soon after brought my monitor "Out of range". The workaround in such cases is to select one step down on the resolution menu, 1024x768 in this case, for the installation. Afterwards select the optimum resolution and refresh with SaX2, if not discovered or set automatically at the end of the installation/configuration. Rgds, Terje J. Hanssen

Do you know what to do when you forget to do this, i.e. how to adjust the splash resolution _after_ the installation is completed? /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

I get to answer that - just change the VGA= parameter in lilo.conf. In my case from 0x31a to 0x317. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org

And in cases where one accidently run monitor out of range due to too high resolution, refresh rate or color depth; go to run level 3 and start sax2 in generic, low resolution mode: # init 3 # sax2 -l which makes is possible to correct the setup http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/SuSE/2004-05/3270.html Rgds, Terje J.
