I know we don't want more lists. Yet here I am, asking for a total of 4 more lists. Serious. First of all, the summit and the conference need an announcement mailing list. That's basically an official SPAM list where you put people on who are interested (just a box on the website where they enter their mail address, no actual registration in indico needed) and who are registered. Why? - those who are interested but not sure yet need not register - you can easily ping them next year: new conference coming! If you think it doesn't work, maybe not for you. But it does work for quite a number of people. Me, for example. No, indico registration is no substitute. I know we can extract mail addresses from it but it's far les convenient, error-prone and doesn't work for those who just want to stay updated. And I want people to be able to (un) subscribe more easily. Yes, it's a very low-trafic list, 10-15 mails a year or so. But it IS important. We COULD have one list for both conferences, but I prefer separate to not spam people with info from both. It should be moderated of course. Then, both conferences should idealy have a opensuse-X-participant list. I've seen this at other confs and it is a great way to let the participants talk to each other to arrange eg travel or hotel together. No, the other openSUSE lists are no substitute - not all the visitors to our conference are on -project or even CARE to be on it. Anyone who subscribes in indico should be subscribed to this list. We mass-unsubscribe people a month after the end of the conference/summit to not bother those who won't participate next year. So I'd like to ask for the creation of: opensuse-conference-announce(a)opensuse.org opensuse-summit-announce(a)opensuse.org opensuse-conference-participant(a)opensuse.org opensuse-summit-participant(a)opensuse.org (maybe without the opensuse- part) It'd be nice if we could have this quickly, esp the summit-announce, so we can get people to give their mail address for that on the summit.opensuse.org website when we announce on Thursday. But I'm sure we can temporarily collect addresses if we don't manage that?? Thoughts? Jos

[opensuse-summit] Summit website is now up and running

Hello, The openSUSE website is now up and running at http://summit.opensuse.org . I am open for any comments/feedback you guys have :). Also I have prepared a documentation on how to edit or add contents to the summit website. I have tried to make it as easy as possible. Below are the details [1] - This contains all the data related to setting up the nanoc instance on your machine. Committing,fetching and pushing content to/from off of git. And how to add/edit contents on the summit website. [2] - This tells you on how to create gpg and sign your ssh keys. As you need to provide this to darix in order to gain access to the server. You can find darix at #opensuse-admin channel. [3] - This is basically nothing but a short list of commands you will be needing to get the things done. May come handy and may make task completion quicker i guess. Also few key points to remember - 1. You need to setup a git and github account 2. Let me know if anything does not work out. Or if this gets complicated and if you feel comfortable providing the stuff to me. I can always add it to the website. 3. Once done with editing or adding content make sure push the commits to git.7. But it is a good idea to view the site on your local machine first. You can use nanoc view for that. 4. Always do a git fetch/merge before you start working. As it will pull all the info off of the repo. This is helpful since there are multiple editors to this site and git fetch/merge will update your local machine with the recent changes. 5. Once done with creating your ssh key. Create the gpg key, sign the ssh keys and pass it on to darix. So that you have the deployment information with you. As this process takes a little bit time :) 6. Please ask me if you questions you have. 7. If you have any "How-to" question regarding the above 6 points the answer is the documentations.But still if something is not clear let me know. [opensuse-summit] Early Registration Incentives

We will be launching our Summit website and opening the registration process at the end of this month. It will be nice if we can get people to register early because then we have a better headcount to figure various costs during the Summit. I originally thought of getting a media sponsor to provide a discount code for magazine subscription for those who register before say... July 1. But seems that idea might not work out. If anyone here has any creative ideas for early registration incentives, let's discuss! Hey, We're getting closer and closer to getting our registration options set up on Indico. Alan and Shayon are working on payment methodology. This all probably will be resolved in the next few days. I've already built my initial definitions of the registration types, but have questions and need feedback before we finalize them. --Descriptions openSUSE Community Ticket (Free) * Free admission to final day of SUSECon (Sept. 21) * Free admission to all openSUSE Summit events * Free admission to all openSUSE Summit parties * Free T-shirt ---- Pretty straight-forward. I don't think we need much adaptation here. openSUSE Supporter Ticket ($50) * Free admission to final day of SUSECon * Free admission to all openSUSE Summit events * Free admission to all openSUSE Summit parties * Free T-shirt * Your name on openSUSE Wall of Supporters ---- Do we want to add some other special "exclusive" gift (LOW-COST!) for folks willing to donate money via Supporter Ticket? This is a "fund-raiser" option for folks, so I'd like to give a good motivation to encourage people to choose this instead of free admission. We don't have to specify what that "gift" would be right now. We could simply say * Exclusive Gift upon arrival at openSUSE Summit. As we get closer to Summit date, we'll have a better idea how many people chose this option and create gifts accordingly.
