If you're running the latest Ubuntu, you don't need to worry about the
drm modules. The ones you need are already part of the latest release.
Also, please keep things on the mailling list so that more than one
person can help answer any questions.

Heho,
if you have one of the mentioned chipsets (and are willing to
experiment, and/or have issues with radeonhd), please try the attached
patch. If changes MC setup significantly (so significantly that I don't
want to commit it without testing), it should be equivalent to what
radeon is doing now.
Please post your findings.

After taking 2 steps forward in the past couple of updates, looks like we went 3 steps back. On my Toshiba laptop with RS690M (x1200), the latest updates completely prevent X from starting. The bug seems related to Atombios. A summary of the errors and warning from my Xorg.0.log are as follows:

RFT - Request For Help/patch takeover
I've taken a stab at porting HDMI support from the radeonhd driver
onto the radeon driver. Mind you this is my first video patch, so
not sure if it was done properly. I kept telling myself I was going
to finish this during my night hours but my night hours are now reserved.
So if it is at least done some-what right was hoping someone could take this
on themselves and complete it... The missing piece should be the
generic HDMI stuff which I thought was not required but in fact is.
Forgot if I compile tested.. definitely didn't try loading yet.
I just rebased this onto today's git HEAD.
I do have an HD4800 which I can test.
Anyway, hope someone with more time can take this over.

Since the first working version of radeonhd (October 2007), I sometimes
get a flickering panel when switching to a console.
It does not make any difference whether I use pure text-mode- or a
framebuffer-console.
It looks a little bit like a crt that is not synchronized.
Switching to X and back to console helps, even if I sometimes have to
switch more than one time.
If there is anything I can do to give you more detailed information,
please tell me what to do.

Hello,
I have been using this unrecognized card for a week or so, initially
with no 2D acceleration, and more recently I got the EXA acceleration
working. However, after that, I started to notice some visual
artifacts. When I first start xdm I see:

The artifacts vary over time and are never the same, though they seem
to get worse over time on a particular X session. I also see
artifacts at the top of the screen while using MAME, but I'm not
convinced it's an issue with the radeonhd driver.
This issue isn't a critical one for me right now, but since my card
isn't recognized, I thought I should submit my info. I should also
draw your attention to a couple of items in my X log:

I've got a Radeon 3850HD with 512 MB and the
Option "ScaleType" "scale_keep_aspect_ratio"
doesn't work.
I tried it with SCUMMVM and some other games.

Xv: Make color space selectable on r6xx/r7xx
Add functionality to switch between Rec.601 and Rec.709 color space
conversion constants.
Default behaviour is to use Rec.709 for videos 928px or wider,
and Rec.601 otherwise. Force a particular color space by setting the
new XV_COLORSPACE attribute to 1 (Rec.601) or 2 (Rec.709). A value of 0
means do auto-detection.
man page updated accordingly.
This is a follow-up to bug #22901.
