if you have one of the mentioned chipsets (and are willing to
experiment, and/or have issues with radeonhd), please try the attached
patch. If changes MC setup significantly (so significantly that I don't
want to commit it without testing), it should be equivalent to what
radeon is doing now.
Please post your findings.

RS780 seems to work. Does not like the sideport memory though. (although UMA+SidePort is set in the bios). I'm appending the diff between a previous Xorg.0.log and the log of the patched radeonhd:

Hm. The driver apparently didn't even notice the sideport memory before, because I don't see a "Mapping IGP memory" message in the old log...

Just found a logic bug in the test...
Anyway, I think that you have something like
Option "UnverifiedFeatures" "off"
in your xorg.conf. Otherwise there should have been an
"IGP sideport memory (not) present" in the old log (with or without "not").

It's an unmodified SaX2 generated xorg.conf
(and I couldn't find any suspicious option,
but then I may have overlooked it).

It's an unmodified SaX2 generated xorg.conf (and I couldn't find any suspicious option, but then I may have overlooked it).

Tested on RS600. Seems MC setup problems have been solved, but now the problem is with AtomBIOS and Voltage functions (so the black screen remains). Attached Xorg log (with logverbose 7). Just to make sure - did radeonhd ever (with any patch) work for you? Does radeon work for you?
Radeonhd only works for me with DRI turned off and NoAccel option. It never worked otherwise. But the thing is, I never had the chance to test AtomBios stuff with DRI and Accel, because Xorg server never made it to get there: it always stopped when trying to do the MC setup stuff because of the "MC not idle" error, way before doing AtomBios stuff. Radeon driver works for me (without xrandr detecting all my outputs, but this is an off-topic comment), with DRI and Accel activated.
Sorry if asking that multiple times - there are just too many configurations with too many different issues out there :-]

Yes, it does.
Ok, we'll have to further dig into this. For now I have pushed the
current patch sereis, as RS600 seems to be the most problematic chipset.
Guess we have to find out more differences between radeon and radeonhd
regarding this chipset.
Note that the patch won't apply anymore, but it should be easy to come
up with something similar. Basically at least the MC controller *setup*
was ignored with this patch.

Radeon driver seems not detecting the S-Video TV output on RS600, or at least xrandr doesn't report it.
