I've tried either radeon and radeonhd drivers, radeon from ports and from git, radeonhd from git. Then X started for the first time, I can switch to console and back with out problems. On second start it locks some where after mode-setting. Screen no longer redraws, load is increased significantly (7~8 on an otherwise idle system) but HW cursor still functions. Not reproducible with just a plain X server. radeonhd from git master: efaebb70294055f371cd328124b23a343cea6a68 Alex Deucher and I narrowed it down to bad EXA/Composite interaction on IRC. Turning on EXANoComposite seems to work around it. Neither dmesg nor Xorg.0.log seem to show anything. I've observed this behaviour before CS branch merge, but only after the GLX app has run for significantly longer, or if I move around the window the app is in. Did not report earlier as I was unsure if it was due to my power management code. However Google Earth will never run at an acceeptable speed even on new computers if it can not make use of the OpenGL hardware accellaration. Google Earth is the most used 3D-application under Linux (in contrast to various games like Simcity) so it seemed to make sense to provide sufficient support for this app before others. As I have heard endeavour for better 3D-support should already be on its way for radeonhd. For that I type: xrandr --output PANEL --off This results in two black screens. Logs attached are for latest master branch git version. The first time X is started after a boot, the desktop area that kde recognizes as such (ie, it paints the wallpaper, gives you the right click menu) is a small strip at the top of the screen. Quitting X and restarting makes things behave as usual. logverbose 7 logs attached for both the initial, weird instance and the second, normal one. The only differences appear to be in the addresses being mapped. There are 4 vertical "lines", about 20 pixes in width that go across the screen from top to bottom. When I place the mouse cursor on top of these "lines", I get a flickering mouse cursor. The 4 lines are at about 235-255 pixels from the left edge of the screen, at 490-510 pixels from the left edge, at at 940-960 pixels from the left edge and at 1005-1025 pixels from the left edge. On the other monitor, this does not happen. The resolution the monitor on which it is happening is running is 1280x1024.
