It's no longer possible to install TW on my model of the Surface. I haven't checked recently, but Kernel maintainers have been aware of the bug for years and have done nothing to solve it (there are many other reports). They've decided to ignore it. I am using the latest tumbleweed snapshot(I just updated). uname -r 6.9.1-1-default I have run many distros on this desktop and I have never faced this problem.
