It looks a bit like a lose monitor cable, but I can exclude a hardware problem, because it also happens when I don't even touch the device, but it does not happen under Windows 10 that came preinstalled on the device. I discussed this with Stefan Dirsch and he suspected a bug in KMS. Nothing conclusive in the logs and nothing weird in dmesg. I suspect the kernel as I rebooted with the old kernel, 5.8.12-1-default, and everything worked as before. A weird work around from the freezes is that if I (in plasma) hit alt-tab the system goes back to being responsive, but only until next short freeze. Still nothing conclusive in the logs. Thanks for reminding, I eventually tried all the older kernels that are available from the Leap update channel, unfortunately without success and the problem was there with all of them. I am quite sure that this was not an issue with Leap 15.1, but IIRC 15.1 was still based on a 4.x kernel. Meanwhile I migrated the laptop to Tumbleweed, hoping that there are more frequent updates that might eventually fix the problem, but so far it is still happening with the current `5.9.12-1-default`. > Also, did you try some power-saving options mentioned in the upstream > bugzilla? I did the installation by accessing the installation media through Ubuntu grub command line (by manually grubconf to grub.cfg of opensuse installtion media ). yh so , Ubuntu and grub was already present in my system and i just installed opensuse through Ubuntu's Grub . The installation media was created using dd (Etcher works fine) . HERE , You don't have to copy bootia32.efi to installation media as the booting is done by Ubuntu's already installed 32 bit Grub . The kernel failed to get the USB descriptor. I'm not sure now whether it's a bug in IOMMU or rather in USB controller. Judging from the dmseg output, it's handled by ohci-pci. I can't say to what extend this might be a regression, since previously I had IOMMU enabled when running openSUSE. Now I wanted to install openSUSE again via live-cd, since my Fedora f2fs installation had irrecoverable data loss. I tried multiple times with Tumbleweed and Leap live usb which appeared hung, since I had no keyboard and mouse, but I saw the clock moving minutes. I recalled that IOMMU kinda sounds like this and enabled it in the BIOS and the keyboard and mouse work perfectly than. USB must've been working since I tried with live USB, but I recall during live boot process there were multiple USB related timeout read error messages before the system booted (the timeout/read errors made the boot slow also). I can try to film live boot with phone camera if that helps. I'm not sure how critical this bug is since AFAIK IOMMU is a must have feature, and every system supports it? But, to make sure: do you mean that even USB-keyboard / mouse don't work when you disable IOMMU? I thought you were referring to the laptop built-in keyboard, but it sounds different.
