That is perfectly fine as long as one could change the default. In short the following features are needed: 1) Possibility to override used options during installation (also should be setable via autoyast / kiwi so one doesn't have to change the setting on every new install). 2) Possibility to override used options during partition creation. 3) Possibility to set the used default options in some /etc file. IMHO a simple text field in the partitioner to override the used options would perfectly suffice. Then safe & restore that field via autoyast & kiwi and be done. It has issues allowing resolutions set in X to be chosen for display, and it would be really, really, really nice if it had multi-monitor support. Specifically, the core KDE libraries that are needed to run KDE software should be placed in a kde-platform pattern. Similarly, the plasma desktop (and the upcoming netbook and media center variants) should be placed in a kde-worskspaces pattern. Other KDE applications should be placed in a kde-applications pattern. Going further, core, extragear, community, and playground variants of these patterns would probably be provided. For example kde-workspaces-core would provide the workspaces components shipped with a KDE software compilation (the name for a new KDE release), kde-workspaces-extragear and kde-worskpaces-playground would provide plasma packages in the official extragear and playground svn repositories, while kde-worskpaces-community would provide plasma components from third-parties such as kde-look.org. Similarly, the KDE repositories should be renamed as well. So instead of KDE4.3, it should be KDESC4.3 or KSC4.3 (to reflect KDE software compilation). BURG: http://code.google.com/p/burg/ . Integrated into YaST and themed well by openSUSE art guys, would be one of the biggest news in openSUSE. Next to (hopefully) KMS, Plymouth or even Splashy. Use Case: More recognizable choice, hidden advanced options (as kernels, failsafe) under each system. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: GRUB 1 is old and finally needs to be replaced. Clean GRUB 2 is a candidate, but BURG is even a better choice. Remember, that inside openSUSE clean GRUB isn't utilised, you introduced gfxboot. It uses an interesting concept of reentrant threads. It supports discrete event simulations in a simple way. The concept allows to program and analyse the timing and the dynamic systemic behavious of interacting agents. This kind of dynamic simulation is rare in the agent-based community and the SimPy approach appears to be promising.
