[opensuse-factory] GNOME screensaver must be *swept* up to reveal password prompt
Is it upstream code or part of openSUSE theme? It requires *two* hands when using touch panel where I was happily using just one before. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Really? It works with just one finger for me on a touch screen here. You can also just hit [ENTER] twice on the keyboard to have it move up. greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hitting ENTER or ESC *once* should be enough. But indeed, it's a confusing change, I had to google for it, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger aj@{suse.com,opensuse.org} Twitter/Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn,Jennifer Guild,Felix Imendörffer,HRB16746 (AG Nürnberg) GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

And it is almost impossible to use with a trackpoint-only machine. This might make sense on touchscreen-only machines (Tablets, Phones), but the whole "sweeping" thing is unusable with a normal mouse. -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
I personally think the new lock screen is much nicer than the old one, but a lot of people disagree so you're not alone. On Sat, 2013-02-16 at 13:11 +0100, Stefan Seyfried wrote:

This might make sense on touchscreen-only machines (Tablets, Phones), but the whole "sweeping" thing is unusable with a normal mouse. It's dead simple to use with a mouse... you just sweep it up; it's an effortless gesture. Maybe would be a tad annoying if I had to use a touchpad (or horror if a trackpad), but everything's annoying with a touchpad/trackpad and you can always hit Escape or Enter.

Well, when I got that lockscreen last time (I think it was when I was waiting too long in GDM and somehow the sweep-to-unlock lockscreen kicked in there), I was not able to unlock. I guessed that I'd need to click and drag up or something like that but it did not work. Fortunately I was not logged in and could get out by simply rebooting the machine.

I somehow seem to have broken gnome-screensaver in a way that it does not exhibit this sweep-to-unlock feature (I'm using gnome-screensaver from XFCE, and probably I'm missing some GTK3-Theme or have mis-configured the GTK3-setting or such, the unlock dialog looks very much like from the early 1990's which is totally fine for me, much better than the all-darkgrey-on-black-round-edges fancy new stuff :-)) So no need to "fix" anything for me. If it gets to annoy me, I'll just patch xscreensaver to make its unlock dialog behave like I want it to and use that instead of gnome-screensaver :-) I have accepted that I am not the target audience of the "big" desktops (but I wonder who is...). -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

not really (just tried it for fun). You need to click, hold the button and then "sweep it up". Which is a PITA. Stuff like that works on touchscreens but not with traditional pointers.

(which, admittedly, I almost never do with a touchpad, so this seems incompatible with laptops without touchscreen)

I click, move the mouse up a bit, and then release the button. And I really don't see the problem (though an option to use the old behavior would be nice).
