http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1177395 Bug ID: 1177395 Summary: gnome-software defunct/hangs after resume from suspend (affects checking for updates) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Leap 15.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: gnome-bugs@suse.de Reporter: kwizzz@googlemail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 842334 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=842334&action=edit output of gnome-software --verbose Usually, gnome-software initiates the check for updates once a day. However, after suspending and then resuming my laptop the next day, gnome-software is kinda dead: 1. No active checks for updates are performed (confirmed via dconf dump /org/gnome/software/) 2. gnome-software UI hangs anyways: - listing the Software Repositories results in a forever-and-ever loading pop-up window - clicking on Updates shows that last check has been performed yesterday; clicking on the refresh button ends up in forever-and-ever "checking for updates" Attached is output of `gnome-software --verbose`, including my annotations. Will do so next time I run into this issue. (Unfortunately, the necessary old system journal entries are gone. Journal now starts 2020-10-19 -- no issues so far with software updates via gnome-software. Where is the bug when you desperately need it most? ;-)) Let me know if I should provide anything else besides output of `journalctl -u packagekit.service`. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Performed a reboot, then started gnome-software. gnome-software showed 2 updates available under Updates tab. It has also gnome-software update issues, but different in nature. For sake of completeness: On F32, after resuming, transaction `refresh-cache` fails due to name resolving issues (probably related to network coming back too slowly), thus fooling gnome-software to think that there are no updates available. I don't find anything particularly wrong in the logs. PackageKit did finish a few transactions(refresh-cache, get-updates) when GNOME Software is starting up in the background. From your previous descriptions, it seems that GNOME Software unable to start PackageKit when PK daemon quits after idling for a while.

I figured out to enable verbose loging for packagekit. Attached is the log of journalctl, pkmon, and gs, all merged together and annotated by what I was doing or was happening (starting with ###). * 2020-11-12 showed good behaviour * 2020-11-13 the issue came back (some weird entries in the log file: cancelling running background transaction, Cancel not supported by backend, plugin .* did not return error with cancellable set) * 2020-11-14 once messed up, only way to go back to normal operation is to kill and restart gnome-software -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
