No it is not intentional, and because a regular Leap Xfce installs all lang packages by default, it is possible that this behavior change has been overlooked. When starting from application menu, it shows up for a fraction of second on panel and then disapears. When starting kicad, eeschema or pcbnew from terminal, I always get the following error: Fatal Error: Mismatch between the program and library build versions detected. The library used 3.0 (wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1002,STL containers,compatible with 2.8), and your program used 3.0 (wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1009,STL containers,compatible with 2.8). Aborted (core dumped) Kicad from the package kicad at main repository works normally. It looks like you are trying to build the images described in `kiwi-boot-descriptions` package directly by calling `kiwi system build` on them. Or you just did it for demoing purposes? Those image descriptions are meant to be used for custom initrd creation for the oem images that they still use the old initrd creation approach. They should not be used to create a bootable system. They are referenced in `boot` attribute of in `<type>` section for oem images and they are used to create an old legacy initrd not based on dracut. In order to use dracut based builds for OEM images you should have a `<type>` section in you config.xml that includes `initrd_system="dracut"` attribute and does **not** include the `boot` attribute. Note that the old custom kiwi initrds are deprecated and are only in maintenance mode for pxe and oem images on SLE. If for some reason the old oemboot code is needed (aka, you relay on some old oemboot code hooks) we need further details about the use case. Axel confirmed to me that installing lang packages resolves his issues. The Xfce lang packages in both Leap and TW are generated in the rpm spec file via the %lang_package macro.
