I did not got the usual request to enter the root password to get the opportunity to repair the system. This fact might be the case to escalate this issue to a blocker. I had to boot a rescue system, disable all logical volume devices from /etc/fstab, and then had been able investigate further. I've tried with the stock 13.1 kernel, and the latest 3.13.2 from kernel:stable, neither will boot unless I add 'nomodeset' to the kernel command line. If I boot with nomodeset X appears to work nicely. Unfortunately debugging the kernel mode setting is problematic - I can't see what it's doing as/when the screen changes type. By hammering keys variously I once managed to get (manually transcribed against the clock): radeon 0000:01:00.0: firmware radeon/PITCAIRN_pfp.bin will not be loaded [drm:si_startup] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware! radeon 0000:01:00.0: Fatal error during GPU init ... timeout etc. ... data scrolled off the screen. platform microcode amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam15h.bin will not be loaded etc. BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 22s! [udevd:122] CPU: 2 ... which is a bit of a problem; no page-up there - I think I was hammering escape / ctrl-alt-delete and happened to grab that. Nothing seems to feature in syslog after boot. I activated with lvchange -ay /dev/raid/* and then I switched to runlevel 5 but I know that next boot I have to redo tha same. The NTP deamon just print this message out "Recieved no usable packet from [ipv6 addr]" and try the operation again after a few seconds. This worked at some point of 13.1 development, but not sure anymore when the last one was installed. We now created a /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-enp1s0f0 file and brought network up. Remote console can be accessed via: http://ringwood-sp user/pass: root/hammer Strange was that the wrong network device seem to have been brought up via: ifconfig enp1s0f1 up or similar.
