I believe that this started with 12.1. The old fix was to stop dbus delete /var/lib/dbus and /var/run/dbus force reinstall of dbus then restart dbus. In 13.1 you must also delete /etc/machine-id. I did notice ton after install /var/lib/dbus has a machine-id files and that after update it links to /etc/machine-id. I also noticed that after install the two machine-id files do not match. Dave W Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install from scratch. 2.Update System 3.Start Yast2 from command line to see error. Actual Results: Yast2 will start but you will see the following errors. Does anyone know what keeps resetting this? I could write a daemon which checks every few seconds the current settings and immediately change to my desired configuration, but that's not very nice. Programs like minicom & arduino (IDE) worked fine before if you added your user to the uucp & dialout groups. Now arduino gives an error like: LOCKING /dev/ttyUSB0 lib_lock_dev_lock() lockstatus fail, are you in group 'lock'? .and you are unable to select a serial port in the menu. minicom displays a similar lock error. Adding user to the lock group has no effect. The quick workaround is: sudo chmod g+rwx,o+rwt /var/lock Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. have a serial port. 2. install & run minicom -D /dev/ttyUSB0 (for example) 3. lock error message Actual Results: "Cannot create lockfile..." If I boot attached to the dock and there is an external monitor attached, it will hang/freeze after the boot screen. If I remove it from the dock, it will continue booting normally. If I attach the laptop to the dock while running, it will freeze or sometimes continue running normally on the laptop screen, until I select Configure Desktop->Display and Monitor, at which time it will hang. Again, removing from the dock will unhang it and it will start working normally. If I attach the laptop to the dock when the dock does not have any external monitors attached it works fine. If I try to attach a monitor, the system hangs until the laptop is removed from the dock. This problem is also exhibited on Fedora 19 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1036974) and Fedora 20 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1035448) So it is not distro-specific. There is nothing notable in either /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log, certainly no error messages. It is like the system just freezes. I have waited up to 5 minutes with no change. The hardware/graphics specific are: Intel Core i7-4600U 2.10GHz (haswell) Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics ThinkPad t440s w/FHD (1920x1080 display) ThinkPad Ultra Dock (40A20090US) External Dell 2408WFP monitor at 1920x1200 resolution I would be more than happy to troubleshoot or run debugs, etc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1a. Attach unpowered laptop to dock that has external monitor attached. Boot. or 1b. Attach running laptop to dock that has external monitor attached. If it doesn't freeze immediately, run Configure Desktop->Display and Monitor to set up external monitor. Will freeze then. Actual Results: System freezes. Expected Results: System continues to run and displays output on external monitor.
