I launched firefox 21 and get a bunch of messages with many looking like errors. Which of these do I pay attention to and most of all, why are they not going off into a log file? Many of these look similar to messages I see on firefox's internal console -- it's internal log. if I launch FF from a console window on Windows, I see no messages in the window I launch from -- as they are all FF messages they go into FF's log. But some of these messages look like they are coming from system libs that FF uses. Shouldn't those be going off into a system log somewhere? Which of these are real errors (the one labeled "critical"?) and how should they be fixed? Certainly this isn't normal function for starting a browser, very few users would have any clue about what these messages are about. None of them seem to tell me why my browser no longer connects to the internet (which it used to do last month). I have also tried setting them to the squid proxy on the same host (which I would prefer) but that doesn't work either. The first message that comes out above seems very odd. It's asserting that the sys_page_size should be 0 and that fails? It seems very odd that it would want a 0-length sys-page-size, OR that it would get one. Note... even when things are working, it still spews a bunch of those messages out on the starting terminal... Not capturing those somewhere seems wrong -- many of them seem like debug messages? -- but messages that would still go in a log somewhere? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. login remotely using a console or tty window and ssh; Since this is a closed network, DISPLAY=<remotehost>:0 , (i.e. doesn't get redirected through the ssh-session to go through another encrypt-decrypt cycle). 2. start firefox from the console window -- I was able to just type firefox. > whence firefox firefox is /usr/bin/firefox 3. When I use the following entries in /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: files ldap group: files ldap the system does not boot in approx. 9 out of 10 cases, it just hangs after starting some of all processes. The console login appears, I can enter a username but the system does not start a shell. The only way out of this situation is to do a hardware reset of the system. If the system however boots, no further problem occurs. If I change the above entries in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file to the following: passwd: files ldap group: files no such problem occurs, the system boots. If I change the group antry to group: files ldap no further problem occurs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set your desktop to "desktop folder view" (or something like that, in German: "Arbeitsflächen-Ordner anzeigen"). 2.Now the files on in /home/<user>/Desktop should be displayed on your desktop (exactly like in Windows). 3.Open any archive with ark. 4.Drag&drop a file to the desktop (the actual desktop, not the dolphin view of /home/<user>/Desktop Actual Results: The file is extracted to /home/<user>/. Once that reconnect succeeds, then /usr/lib/nm-openvpn-service-openvpn-helper is called with 'restart' instead of 'init'. But its not only the *argv[] content that differs, also the environment with connection value differs. Since this helper pulls all options from environment and passes them to NetworkManager, the script will fail because it does not find some of them when called with 'restart'. I hacked the helper to just return 0 early. Maybe that can be improved to check wether some of the environment variables are set, then these could be passed to NetworkManager. I have not checked what the caller of the helper does actually do with 'init' vs. 'restart'. The attached patch works for me, the vpn connection remains active now. I could not verify and come to a resolution. Since openSUSE already does ship Ed's patches with alpine, we seem to be doing fine, aren't we? If so, I would like to update alpine to re-alpine if approved. re-alpine is the successor to UW's alpine.
