In one polling cycle interfaces which are registered to polling are probed in a round-robin manner. The limit of packets in one such probe can be set per-device via sysfs class/net/<device>/weight ." But /sys/class/net/<device>/weight was removed five years ago in http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commitdiff;h… Probably there is a better place to report this. But I am too lazy to try to find which is that place. By the way. I see netif_napi_add() still has a weight parameter. Is it being used? There is actually any replacement for the functionality of /sys/class/net/<device>/weight? After reading Documentation/sysctl/net.txt (ignoring the sysfs part) what I understand is that all the interfaces now have the same weight. And the number of packets that can be taken in a polling cycle is limited by: a) /proc/sys/net/core/dev_weight per CPU b) /proc/sys/net/core/netdev_budget globally But I suspect I am still not understanding it (specially because of the weight parameter in netif_napi_add()). Sometimes it works for a week, others it crashes at the first attempt if the machine has been running "long enough" :-/ I see this behaviour. [/CODE] It sits there for a long time, but the machine is still doing things, because I see the HD led blink every few seconds. Instead of restarting it powers off and doesn't start when powered back on immediately using power switch on my laptop. it runs for 1 to 2 seconds and then again powers down. After leaving it off for 2 to 3 minutes, system runs again. I have installed opensuse 12.1 in dual boot with windows 7 and there is no such problem with windows 7. I have installed opensuse with "No APIC Local" kernel option with btrfs filesystem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Restarting the system 2. 3. Actual Results: System powers down Expected Results: System should restart. I am using HP 6720s laptop with core2 duo 1.8 ghz processor with 1 GB ram having Seagate 120 GB harddrive.
