It starts reporting unexpected SCSI responses, duplicate object entries, and alike, and it fails to discover new SAN presentation. When running backups consecutively, without any concurrency, the procedure works fine and without failures for many hours. However, when running backups of different VGs concurrently, the failures above show up after some time on the backup host. It doesn't recover from these in following sessions. I.e. once the scan failures start, they remain, even if snapshots got unpresented in the meanwhile and replaced by new ones in later sessions. The reason we believe that this is the Linux kernel's fault, rather than the EVA's or Command View's: Running manual scans for presented but undetected snapshots fails, too. But after a reboot the backup host can see the snapshots it was unable to detect before. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.scanning HBAs for presented snapshots, which are continuously presented and unpresented (for example HP Using Data Protector Backup Software) and repeat that for many hours, with five parallel sessions Actual Results: the system starts reporting unexpected SCSI responses, duplicate object entries, and alike, and it fails to discover new SAN presentation. The scrips uses the command /usr/sbin/rdev to determine the devicename associated with the root filesystem. The problem is already described is the script at Line 294 and following. Fact is, that wiper.sh in 11.4M6 terminates with an errocode, because of missing the rdev command. The boot Process of this PC is as follows Eth1 IP address: 10.10.10.2/8 (MLTIVAC-010) (autoip) already configured eth1 Settng up service (localfs) Re-Starting syslog services Mount CIFS File System Starting rpcbind Starting auditd Starting kernel bases NFS server: mountd statd nfsd sm-notify Starting NFS client services: sm-notify Actual Results: After sm-notify is loaded, if it cannot find its NFS Server the boot process will hang indefinitely - There is NO Time-Out! Expected Results: With or Without locating a PC's NFS Corresponding Server the boot process should proceed as normal and NOT hang indefinitely! Currently the NFS Client PC is totally useless if it cannot locate its NFS Server via sm-notify - There is NO time out for sm-notify and the PC remains hug and virtually unusable. It did a 100% CPU loop between select and read. Customer opened a case with RH because we believed the kernel was wrong, but it turned out that winbind had socket 1050 open. How to reproduce this? Start winbind, wbinfo -t, unplug the network cable (or the DC's one) and fire 2000 wbinfo -t processes. No, the winbind client limit does not protect us, this only kicks in for idle clients. We never kill clients that have requests open. While not having finished the conversion to epoll in S3 I think we need to switch to the inefficient poll. It's a lot less intrusive than I thought. The attached patch (I've only mildly tested winbind, no smbd yet) converts winbind and smbd to use poll. OOO Support Replied in no uncertain terms that were very clear saying, this is a Kernel problem together with a Bastardised version of OOO that comes with 11.3. I suggested that the only changes to OOO in the Packing list is the installation of some default add-ons. OOO has also completely frozen the whole O/S when recovering a document, however this is not always 100% reliable to test. OOO - Support was not so happy to share their determination and further information of known issues with OOO and the Linux Kernel - You guys will probably have contacts within OOO Support who may well be far happier to share their Information about the 'Linux Kernel Problems' The Other issue is with OOO is Real-time Spell and Gamer checkers are hopelessly slow is a 3 page document let alone a 50 page etc.... I have given OOO Base Extra Resources up the ying yang, but still no change My Support contact at OOO was Clayton. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Always freezes on Opening OOO for a few seconds 2. Most of the time, the recovery of a Document will freeze the O/S completely and there is NO response to 2 x CTRL+ALT+Backspace !
