Note that the dhclient documentation example for send host-name incorrectly shows a fully-qualified domain name with host when it should just be the hostname. i.e.: send host-name "myhost"; NOT send host-name "myhost.mydomain.com"; I previously had dynamic DNS updates working with send host-name "myhost"; in /etc/dhclient.conf but this update has broken it now. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use dig to query a dynamically updated DNS server with the updated Network Manager 2. Observe a NXDOMAIN error result Actual Results: With send host-name "myhost.mydomain.com"; an ISC-DHCP server fails to dynamically update DNS. When NetworkManager it loads after mount tries to mount the network shares (set in fstab) so the system hangs until it times out. I see three problems here: - The aforementioned order of mount & NM at boot; - The default timeout being so long. I had to wait over 10 minutes! for it to get past trying to mount shares on the network; - The boot operation not showing which share it tried and failed to mount - this would be useful info. in the case of a failure. Curiously, and I have no idea why this is, even after network manager has started (at least from what I can see on the console what booting) when the GUI starts it takes much longer to become ready for log in than when using ifup. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that there is yet another point of delay during boot from this setting but I have no idea what it would be since by then all as I can see is the start up GUI. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up and nfs or other network share to mount automatically and change your network management from ifup to NetworkManager 2. 3. Every time a restart the system I need to repeat the procedure. On previous Opensuse versions (11.3, 11.2, etc...) it has always worked. I wait exactly 0.25 seconds after each keypress. However, with the aggregated "nohz=off splash=verbose panic_on_oops=1 ZYPP_MULTICURL=1 " on the kernel params line, isolinux/gfxboot lost some of the keystrokes, because the BIOS keyboard buffer is only 16 chars. The time it takes to add a new character to kernel params is O(n^2), so in KVM on local SDL graphics, the first ten chars take 1 second, the next ten take 3 seconds, the third ten take 5 seconds, the fourth ten take 7 seconds, the fifth ten need 9 seconds and then it stays at 11 seconds because the number of displayed characters is limited to ~60. One way to make loosing keypresses much less likely, would be to read+eval all keystrokes from BIOS buffer (instead of just one) before starting the slow redraw operation. Installation was made to /dev/sde2 which is a partition on one of the internal disks. Grub menu.lst has correspondingly root=/dev/sde2. So far so good. However after reboot the harddrive with root filesystem is detected as /dev/sdi and obviously booting fails because the root fs can't be mounted. Manual update of root= in /boot/grub/menu.lst from /dev/sde2 to /dev/sdi2 fixes the problem, on the other hand the installer left the system unbootable which is certainly wrong. My guess is that during installation the drivers for SCSI controllers are loaded in a reverse order than in normal boot, leading to different disk names. While this may not be a common problem for desktop users it may certainly hit users of enterprise servers with multiple disk controllers.
