I'm using the proprietary nvidia graphics driver because with `nouveau', `direct rendering' was reported as `No' - it was obviously not on when moving screens. I notice when I enable `desktop effects' and I return to the KDE `Personal Settings > Desktop Effects' window, my screen freezes. ssh'ing from a different computer, I see `Xorg' spike to 100% CPU along with `kwin' I'm not sure if that's expected behavior. Unfortunately, while `desktop effects' are enabled, I see situations where Xorg goes to 100%, the system seizes for five to ten seconds, then execution returns. For example, I click on `Application Launcher Menu' and Xorg pegs the CPU. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen all the time otherwise I'd report a separate bug. :\ ... so I'll just mention it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Personal Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects: check `Enable desktop effects' and apply the changes. 2. Exit `Personal Settings' and re-enter. 3. Note windows seizes upon `Desktop > Desktop Effects' Actual Results: `Xorg' and `kwin' usurp the CPU, 100% each so my duo core laptop is frozen for five to ten seconds. But that does not always happen... Sometimes when they should become visible the application shows up and then immediately minimizes. This can sometimes happen when selecting another application, like going from kmail to firefox, without any one of them being minimized. But it is not as easily reproducible. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Minimize all current applications (not necessary but reduces interaction) 2. Click on one minimized application in taskbar, like firefox - it should become visible 3. Click on the same taskbar application - it should minimize 4. repeat from 2. (at least 10 times) Actual Results: Sometimes either step 2. or 3. fails - acts like a double click. Expected Results: Each toggle shows/minimizes the application with no exception. I checked it on two different systems with 11.3 RC2 installed and it was the same. AFAIR it was possible to disable the shadows just fine using 11.2. This may seem as a cosmetic issue but it surely is important for those with limited GPU power. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to KDE's Desktop Effects configuration 2. Having the compositing enabled enable and disable shadows 3. Notice the difference Actual Results: A blue shadow frame around the windows is there no matter the settings chosen. The problem reported here happened when trying to open an URL with it. Useful infos : I've used zypper dup to upgrade my openSUSE 11.2. I've removed Firefox 3 (which is supposed to be the default application in openSUSE for URL, IRC) and use chromium or Firefox 4 instead. Konqueror is installed, as i'm an old KDE user ;-) It should become the default browser (I haven't change the value by hand). At least, it's called by xdg-open. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Remove Firefox 3 (i think it's important, can't check now) 2.try to open an url with xdg-open (for instance : xdg-open http://www.alionet.org Actual Results: xdg-open seems to fall in an infinite loop. It opens (or seems to open) lots of konqueror instance. What's strange is that i can't find them with ps... and thay don't seem to have an impact on memory or processor use (according to top) Konqueror instances communicate with the kde event manager, however, as i can now when one of the instances succeeded in joining the web server. Reprudicible every time.
