I have looked at the script /lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh, and it seems, that it does not handle the installation onto md-root devices properly. According to a trace I did within the script it finds the root device, but then it tries to go into the get_devmodule function with 'root' as a parameter, but there is no root entry in /sys/block/. I don't know, where the translation from /dev/root to the real device /dev/md1, which is where the link of /dev/root points to, should happen. For this is the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go onto a machine with mdx as root. 2. zypper in aufs-kmp-xen (or rm, if its already installed or use some other kernel module, which uses /lib/lib/mkinitrd/setup/72-block.sh somewhere during installation) 3. The error message should show up as output. Actual Results: Error message (see detailed description) appears. Expected Results: Module should be installed without error message. After that X didn't start, I didn't have eth0 any more, and no support for vfat. The reason of problems was that zypper updated only 1 of 3 kernel packages. Please see following: # rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-pae-2.6.27.39-0.2.1 kernel-pae-base-2.6.27.42-0.1.1 kernel-pae-extra-2.6.27.39-0.2.1 As the result I booted into 2.6.27.42 kernel but I lacked *a lot* of kernel modules. Even worse was that I couldn't bring manually downloaded 2.6.27.42 packages from other machine as I didn't have vfat support. In the place where the link named 'Goto Repository' there is a .repo file. I use it to add the repo with zypper, and when I refresh repos zypper complains: "File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://obs/repositories/home:/... ". The build service creates this wrong URL. In that case the http://obs:82/home:/... works. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start obs aplliance, configure it and enter to the build service. 2. Create a new user, new project and new package. 3. Click on the 'Goto Repository' link. 4. Use the .repo file to add a repo with the command "zypper ar -r file.repo". 5. Run "zypper ref".
