On both boxes I use KDE 3.5.10. I started FF manually (from an console window) by entering "/usr/bin/firefox -P". On both boxes I get the "Choose Profile" box, I create an empty one, select it, and then the application crashes with the output: ---snip--- The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 3918 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. What happens is that when Nautilus is generating thumbnails for images, videos, and etc, it will suddenly stop when it hits an HTML file. After this point, thumbnails are never generated again under the current user account. Removing the ~/.thumnails folder only works temporarily, until you hit another HTML file. A temporary fix for this is to run gconf-editor and go to desktop > gnome > thumbnailers > text@html and uncheck the box "enabled". I believe it has something to do with the new way that Firefox 3.5 renders HTML pages, and thus, it is breaking the thumbnail generation function of Nautilus. Software Versions: openSUSE 11.1 Firefox 3.5.0-2.1 Nautilus 2.24.1-6.4 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new folder and populate it with many image and video files. 2. Save an HTML file from a webpage to this new folder (make sure it sits somewhere in the middle of the folder, between the other files in terms of alphabetical order. 3. Refresh the folder to generate the thumbnails. Actual Results: No thumbnails should generate after Nautilus (file browser) attempts to create one for the HTML file. When starting xosview and leaving the system idle, one of the CPU bars is jumping from 0% to some value between 5% and 9% about twice a second. On identical SLES 10 systems, all CPU lines stay at 0% all the time when the systems are idle. Checking /proc/stat we see that the "sys" column is increasing by about 1 per second. But this seems to come from xosview itself. If we start gkrellm, the CPU sliders stay at 0 all the time and the "sys" column in /proc/stat doesn't change. The moment we start xosview, the sliders in gkrellm start jumping back and forth, too. It seem the method xosview scans the system did not use any measurable "sys" cpu cycles in kernel 2.6.16 (SLES 10) but now in SLES 11 (2.6.27) or Factory (2.6.30) it does. It is really annoying if xosview flashes about twice a second all the time when you are doing nothing. Is there any chance this could be fixed? I already tried to replace the code reading and generating the cpu stats with the code that gkrellm uses, but this alone doesn't help. What appears to happen is when the installer accesses the hard disk for formatting, the disk is automatically mounted by HAL and hence results in error that the partition is in use or busy, subsequently the installation fails. One of the partitions selected for install are automatically mounted and an icon is also placed on the Desktop. Normally, /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 is mounted at /media/disk/ and appears to interfere with the formatting and installation. First tried acpi=off during live boot. No joy. Tried Failsafe settings during live boot. No joy. Tried different partitioning schemes (not LVM) (Use entire disk, Custom partitioning etc.). No joy. Setup: 1. HP ProLiant ML350 G5, with 2 dual-core CPUs, 4 GB RAM, rest everything standard. 2. openSUSE 11.1 Live CD GNOME Fixed by: Disable haldaemon and network-remotefs (a dependency of haldaemon) and performing the installation. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Live Installer from openSUSE 11.1 live CD (GNOME). 2. Specify Language, time zone, partition setup, user details, accept the summary screen. 3. Allow installer to reach the screen where it formats the partition before installing. 4. A message will pop-up indicating that the partition is in use and cannot be formatted. Actual Results: Installation failed with the default setup of partition. It should not be the case. I have tried i586, x86-64, and the liveCD-Gnome. All hang in normal kernel mode. The LiveCD hangs for about 5 minutes with "udevadm settle timeout" its continues a bit later, but I don't have the message in front of me. The x86-64 installation hangs for about 5 minutes with "starting udev udev-event[9] '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit" and then "ok" then "loading basic drivers" After that point it hangs permanently. It hangs if you select Install, Install in Text Mode, Test Firmware, or Test Media. Alt-F4 reports no errors. The last line is "Uniform multi-platform E-IDE Driver" ---------- Workaround: Install selecting Safe-mode Kernel Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Put in 11.1 CD or DVD 2. Boot 3.
