With a 32bit guest machine everything works fine too. We have noticed this problem with SUSE Studio appliances (See bug 499137), but the same thing happens with openSUSE 11.1 DVD. It has a SATA CD/DVD burner, which boots the openSUSE 11.2 M2 KDE4 LiveCD. SuSE locks the CD while it is running, so I cannot manually eject the CD. When I shut down KDE, telling it to restart, the scrolling list of commands briefly reports "Oops umount failed" and then completes the shutdown, to a BIOS restart. The CD remains locked. I can boot into Windows XP, and it will unlock the CD, but otherwise I have to power off the computer to unlock it -- a hardware reboot is not enough. Earlier versions of openSuSE also do this, as did Knoppix 5.x. However, Knoppix 6.0, which is very close to Debian, does not. It has fixed this problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot openSuSE 11.2 M2 KDE LiveCD Build 0116, default options. 2. In KDE, select shut down with reboot. 3. Watch the shutdown message scroll for an Oops Actual Results: CD remains locked, every time. It can be downloaded from the server as https://<vmware-server-address>/ui/plugin/mozilla/linux/vmware-mks.xpi To install the plugin, the user has to unzip this package into his or her own plugins directory. The plugin requires libexpat0 to be installed on the system. The purpose of the plugin is to provide remote console functionality for virtual machines running in the vmware server. To use the plugin the user logs into the Web Access interface using the browser with his or her credentials, picks one of the available machines and opens the "Console" tab. If using the stock version of firefox from mozilla.com the user will see the virtual console. With the firefox provided by the OpenSUSE distribution, the user will see a white screen instead. The (legacy) diskless environment gets set up with an customized initrd via pxelinux. It is SuSE 9.3 based. The initrd uses klibc's nfsmount from udev-053, and I've tried both protocols: udp and tcp. It's not an iptables issue, since I can mount these directories from other (fully booted) systems just fine. In the last few days, several times a day, either I had to totally restart my system, or I suffered a system crash. However, I recognized, that there is a new version of the hso driver (1.9) which seems to eliminate the mentioned kernel instability problems. The driver can be downloaded from http://www.pharscape.org/hso.html , and can be built by a simple make ; make install cycle, without modifying the kernel source. The new module will be placed as /lib/modles/VERSION/kernel/drivers/net/wwan/hso.ko , so it does not replace physically the current 1.2 hso driver. However, I hope that you can find a way to include this driver in the kernel srpm (and thus in the final rpm) package, and you can release it with the next kernel update. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect with a hso driven 3G modem 2. Wait until the connection gets somehow lost 3. Unplug the device 4. Stop the network subsystem 5. Try to unload the hso module and kill the frozen modem_manager process Actual Results: Either the system crashes or you have to restart it in order to use it again. Expected Results: You should be able to normalize the situation without a reboot or system crash.
