There have an BIOS update, but the description says it just updated some new CPUID to support new CPUs. And after about 2 months' irregular system failure and data lose(perhaps not the fault of the fakeraid but my own fault), I gave up the fakeraid totally. I just installed XP and SuSE on each disk. But I'll try to test whether a BIOS update would fix the problem(hope I wouldn't lose my data again). As mentioned earlier, just OpenSuSE after 10.3 have this problem, Gentoo, Fedora(any version) and OpenSuSE 10.2 works fine. And the release note says that the 10.3 used libata, perhaps this was the source of this problem. Is Fedora or Gentoo also uses libata? I'm not familiar with these so I can't decide whether it's the fault of the BIOS or some other things. I suggest this bug be closed, because there are few people having this problem and it can be solved by simply adding the magic "libata_ignore_hpa = 0" to the boot option. I can log in remotely and run all programs. If I move libdri.so out of the way, things work again. My graphics card is: ATI Technologies Inc RV515GL [FireGL V3300] I think to offending package was x11-video-fglrxG01. Oddly, this was not installed when the system was first installed. It was just added automatically when I did this last update. Also added automatically was ati-fglrxG01-kmp-pae-8.582_2.6.27.19_3.2-2.1. In this update, I also updated the kernel to kernel-pae-2.6.27.21-0.1.2, which I suspect pulled in these other items. All just guesses on my part. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update system 2. Boot the system 3. Actual Results: kdm fails, leaving the screen black.
