Mother: Asus K8N chipset nforce3. NVIDIA FX5200. Samsung sata DVD drive. 512MB RAM. Hitachi Hard disk 80GB. After booting from dvd, choose install. The installation program, hang on "staring udev...".After a while a messege appears. Linuxrc crashed. Udev [627] Bind failed: Address already in use. I also tried with pci=nomsi, safe settings, but this time, the installation progress but, then asked for the installation cd. In SaX it's not listed (though its sister the 226BW is listed). This meant that opensuse 11.1 installed itself at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) which obviously looked rubbish until I changed it to 1680x1050 (WSXGA+). But every 5-10mins I get a lockup. To unlock I can press ctrl-alt-f1 and then ctrl-alt-f7 and I get some more screen drawing. Eventually kde gets fed up and tells me compositing is disabled. I can't tell if the problem is with ATI, the X server, KDE 4 or something else. I installed beta3 iso CD and updated several packages two days ago. Second: I am running opensuse 11.1 as client using VirtualBox. :-) Well, the issue I am seeing is that the whole anti-aliasing settings are O.K. but some apps are not following this configuration (I have configured gnome to disable anti-aliasing at all). One is Gnome terminal (known bug): http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142640 But there is another app where I cannot deactivate anti-aliasing, it's Thunderbird. I am attaching a snapshot for you to see the difference. While Firefox renders O.K., Thunderbird text is blurry. Debian has fixed the problem in wavemon. I have attached a patch that fixed the problem in Debian.
