Clearly this must work for -some- hardware combinations; but ... not this one. The normal cause of such grief is highly un-accelerated XRender implementations. There are (perhaps) a number of optimizations possible: * draw to a server pixmap + on render, render that & the grid lines to another server pixmap + simple blit of that etc. * ensure we are drawing our grid-lines (and as much as possible) at integer co-ordinates (particularly if we are doing image blitting as well - to avoid sub-pixel image interpolation). Similarly, upon timeout Yast always shows a dialog which asks you if you want to retry. This is useless if you are trying to install something _without_ human supervision, e.g. over night online installation: Yast will wait forever instead of just retrying. Why not make this a dialog that will count down automatically and then retry downloading unless "Cancel" is pressed? We already have this kind of dialog when a reboot is required during installation. --- In my opinion, this could be somehow configurable. Anyway, countdown+automatic retry makes sense only for "timeout" or other HTTP/FTP-related issues. I know it is a terrible hack but I created a symlink from /sbin/mount.ntfs to /usr/bin/ntfsmount which happens to be the userspace ntfs-3g executeable. This holds true for both the distribution version and the most recent version from the net. However, the modifications described as follows cure the issue, please consider implementing accordingly: 1.) there is a reference to lprng in the build dependencies what is not neccessary (at least I cannot find a reason for it). However, compilation "as is" would require to uninstall cups and to install lprng) 2.) the current setup causes the issue that uic and moc of qt3 are being found, hence the compiilation fails. 3.) there is a blind include - path to /usr/X11R6/include/X11, a corresponding directory does not exist in the installation system (and the path is not required by any means). A patch to fix all three points and to ensure compilation of lyx-1.5.3 on openSUSE 10.3 is attached. The previous version does fail for the very same reasons. Wonder how this could go entirely untested into the distribution. There is no way to graphically browse to a directory other than under /root. You can however, manually type in the directory path. But that defeats the whole purpose of browsing graphically. The fix should be to have the gui default to / rather than /root. On a separate note: I noticed that if I launch from terminal: /sbin/yast2 (but not under su), and go through the above steps, the graphical browser defaults to ~/home.
