Without knowing how the /lib/modules/*/{weak-,}updates directories are meant to be filled, I cannot assign the Bug accurately, so chose YaST2 as it was the component that installed the rpm's. The up to date kernel 2.6.22.12-0.1-bigsmp does not have link in weak-updates directory. Previous NVidia 3D rpm install, my weak-updates directory was only made correct by a later kernel upgrade. RPM's known to be affected : virtualbox-kmp-bigsmp-1.5.0_2.6.22.5_31-11 nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-bigsmp-100.14.19_2.6.22.5_30-1.1 This is what I did. Have current 2.6.22.12-0.1-bigsmp kernel installed. With YaST Software Manager install VirtualBox, it correctly selects a bigsmp kernel module. After receiving Pop Up in Virtual Box. I read I should in /usr/share/doc/packages/virtualbox/README.SUSE to modprobe, but modprobe cannot find it. fir:/lib/modules # modprobe vboxdrv FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found. While it seems reasonable to check for a (valid) partition table, I suggest that the reporting is changed to something less confusing than "unknown partition table", as this implies that there is something wrong with the media, while in fact, it just doesn't need a partition table and therefore has none. In the cases of bugs 299704 and 300894 looking at the MBR after having read http://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/partitions/ makes it obvious that there is no partition table at all, as the space used for it contains messages. So the message "unknown partition table" should be reserved for cases, where a structure is present that resembles a partition table, but has a format not known to Linux. In cases where the partition table is absent because its not needed, the message should either be suppressed or worded accordingly. It has worked without problems under 10.2. The script times out waiting for the mandatory device eth1 now: eth1 device: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 13). eth1 DHCP client NOT running eth1 is down And indeed, as ifconfig shows, the interface isn't up. However, after booting, 'rcnetwork start' or 'yast2 network' works. Unfortunately /var/log/messages isn't very helpful other than: sgke eth1: Link is up at 1000 Mbps, full duplex ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth1: links becomes ready skge eth1: disabling interface Please note that there is no delay in the above syslog entries (i.e. same timestamp). The interface seems to be brought down right after it was brought up. Since the above does not provide much details, I'd appreciate for some hints to further diagnose the problem. I Have got a TEAC MP3 player which is not automatically recognised if plugged in to the PC . It is not auto mounted to /media. The system finds it and it is possible to mount the device manually. I have tried it with knoppix 5.1.0 which works alright. Observed the same problem with latest Ubuntu. With Opensuse 10.2 it was sometimes working. (means: I plugged the device in and out a several times and used different USB ports then suddenly the KDE window popped up.) This didn't work out under 10.3. In the german translation, you see "Wenn Sie unsicher sind, drücken Sie auf 'Verwerfen'." Should be 'Abbrechen' instead, because the button is also 'Abbrechen'.
