This is not very good for modern mice, and increasing the acceleration usually just makes the mouse jumpy and imprecise. Xorg also support a much better exponential mouse acceleration similar to the one in Windows and Mac OS X which can be enabled by setting the threshold to 0. This should be used by default. Strictly speaking, it's a video player and not an audio player, but I *think* this worked in the past. It has a menu entry labeled "Movie -> Play Disc 'CD-RW/DVD±RW Drive'", which is selectable, but useless as long as the drive is empty. As soon as an Audio CD is inserted into the drive, the menu entry turns into "Play Disc 'Audio Disc'", but becomes greyed out. They have some kind of traffic shaping management, and they send out the following network informations: IP address: just one from network 172.16/12 DNS: 172.30.3.254 Default Gateway: 172.30.3.254 Netmask: 255.255.255.255 I tried to setup a DHCP server, that provides such network information, and then I tried to get an IP address via the network manager, and via the traditional method, using ifup. when doing this via the network manager, then the dhclient is used. The dhclient takes the IP address and updates the resolv.con, but refuses to set a route. There is only a route to 127.0.0.1. when using the dhcpcd on the command line then the notebook takes the IP address, and updates resolv.conf and sets the route like this: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 172.30.3.254 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth1 127.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo 0.0.0.0 172.30.3.254 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth1 when using dhcpcd, then networking is possible. But as the ordinary user has no administration account, he is unable to use wireless networks on at least this Airport. The Info Flyer from the Vienna Airport can be found here: http://www.viennaairport.com/jart/prj3/via/resources/uploads/wireless.pdf I called the network administrator (the Info hotline mentioned on the flyer) He told me that e.g. RedHat or Knoppix do not have these problems, I assume that they use the dhcpcd. If the firewall blocks ports/connections i would like to have an easy interface or warning, that something happens - but i like to configure, which kind of warning are on my interest. If a connection from a local application is blocked, i like to open the firewall for the neccessary port with one click - temporarly or permanent by option. Trying to set another icon set in KDE Control Center has no effect. Changes are "accepted" and "updating settings" (or something line that) pupup/progress window shows up and goes away. But, the icon set remains unchanged. 2. (Probably related) Choosing an icon in DigiKam for a tag crashes DigiKam. (See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133944) Judging by other issues, this is probably not DigiKam bug. 3. (Probably not related, but who knows...) I have auto-login for one of the users. Ever since the latest upgrade, on cold-boots, instead of the kde session, I get an X-term-like window with message complaining that something like "KDEInit.... failed to start". Clicking ok, getting back to KDM and logging the same user in, gets me to the normal KDE desktop. Apparently a case of "speeding up KDE start up" gone bad. I would gladly provide some logs or other info, if I knew where to look. The configuration of extra mice buttons through xorg.conf is too complicated for an average user, so many users simply leave the extra buttons unused, which is not making Linux more user-friendly in their eyes. The same applies to multimedia buttons of modern keyboards. In Windows one has e.g. Logitech drivers that allow for a simple and quick configuration. Presently there are serious advances in Linux configuration tools. For example see the keyTouch project (http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/) which embraces most of the keyboard models on the market. My stick is reiserfs, and yet I see no way to do acl and user_xattr (even when messing with .kde/share/config/mediamanagerrc manually). Or am I just expecting too much?
