I mirror updates locally, but only the patch and delta rpms. Everything is up to date. I install mysql from media and run YOU to install the update for it. zmd is disabled. Local mirror is configured as update source dir:// and is found fine. An error results, the update fails fatally: File ./rpm/x86_64/mysql-5.0.18-20.4.x86_64.rpm not found on media: dir:///media/src/suse/10.1/updates Obviously the file is missing - that's on purpose as explained before. Its delta and patch rpm are there. The patch rpm installs just fine (by method of rpm -UvhF - which is the most satisfactory method currently). Is it a lot of programming hassle to attempt to install a .patch.rpm when the .rpm can't be found, and to only give a fatal error if neither can be found? (Well there's still the delta handling to consider.) Dito for download. This resolution is around 1152 by xxx, with the problem that the displayed font is about 5 pixels in hight. The monitor needs to be selected early and even set to a lower density by the user, example (1024 x 768). I am not able to set the default monitor size until I have created a user account. Later, I found that I could set the monitor size to default for everyone to the 1024 x 768. But it is too late. Major problem, all data display and input fields are 5 pixels high. Reducing the screen resolution did not cause the number of pixels or font size to change proportionally. A similar problem is required for the keyboard. In Montreal where we are, the keyboard is the Canadian(fr) version. This happens on several machines, and once I have a program (under development) that fails, the failure is 100% reproducible. A small change in the program can make the problem go away, so it seems to be position dependent or size dependent. I have tested this on two machines with different SCSI cards and three different kernels: kernel-smp-2.6.16.21-0.13 on i686 SCSI Adaptec AIC-7892A U160/m (rev 02) kernel-smp-2.6.16.21-0.21 on i686 SCSI Adaptec AIC-7892A U160/m (rev 02) kernel-default-2.6.16.13-4 on i586 SCSI Adaptec AHA-2940U2/U2W Basic senario: open() tape drive do a few I/O's read() 64524 bytes (on tape with EOF at beginning) read returns errno=EBUSY re-read a few times system crashes The crash does not always produce an oops (probably too severe) I've straced the code an everything looks pretty normal except the return value from the read() (EBUSY). Change a few lines in the program more or less at random can make the problem go away. It is terribly frustrating ... I have numerous Oopses of various types.
