screen out of sync
Hello! I have an Asus L5000 laptop with a nVidia GeForce FX graphics card and things are running reasonably well. However, wen I press [Ctrl][Alt][F1] to escape the X environment into a text-only interface, my screen gets out of sync! Does anybody know of a simple fix to this? Thanks, Ze ______________________________________________________________ Departamento de Fsica http://www.dfisica.ubi.pt Universidade da Beira Interior http://www.ubi.pt ______________________________________________________________
I had this problem as well. From what I gathered around on google, there isn't a solution. However, I recently switched from SuSe provided kernel to the latest stable one (2.6.8.1) and the problem simply went away. -Seva

You need to install the Nvidia driver from www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html . That should fix the problem. You may want to install the nForce drivers also. That fixed a sound problem I had. The instructions are available with the download. Vsevolod Levitski wrote:

Agreed. You need to use the latest one though, as far as I remember.

yeah, maybe you did install the very latest nvidia driver with it, while before you had an older version, such as the one YOU did install for you?

yes, I did in process install the newest nvidia driver, however that did not fix the problem when using suse provided kernel, only with the new kernel I compiled ************************************************************** * Vsevolod Levitski System Administrator * * levitski@cs.utk.edu Computer Science Department * * 865-974-3840 University of Tennessee, Knoxville * **************************************************************

What do you mean "in process install" ? YOU did not install the very latest nvidia driver for me, i had to do it manually. And it works fine with SuSE kotd kernels (2.6.8...) which I'm running currently.

Sorry for the unclear language. I meant, that while in process of installing a new non-suse kernel, I also installed the newest nvidia driver (manually). Also, when talking about the screen sync problem still persisting on SuSE provided kernel, I was not referring to kotd, rather the latest YOU kernel (2.6.5-7.108). -Seva ************************************************************** * Vsevolod Levitski System Administrator * * levitski@cs.utk.edu Computer Science Department * * 865-974-3840 University of Tennessee, Knoxville * **************************************************************
