You need to install the Nvidia driver from www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html . That should fix the problem.
Agreed. You need to use the latest one though, as far as I remember.

yeah, maybe you did install the very latest nvidia driver with it, while before you had an older version, such as the one YOU did install for you?
yes, I did in process install the newest nvidia driver, however that did not fix the problem when using suse provided kernel, only with the new kernel I compiled
