[opensuse] Installing Opensuse 13.2 on a Macbook 2.1 (2006)

Hi Guys! I have a problem with the installation of Opensuse on a Macbook 2.1 (the white one with the black spot to the right). I tried o whole lot of different methods install oS but nothing seems to work. I tried to insert the dvd, some live cds also via usb and i tried also to make an seperat partition in the internal hdd on which a put the installation iso with dd command. But nothing seems to help, the installation media is not even detected by the startup manager of the macbook. I'm sorry to ask here because too I'm not a friend of apple ;) but anyway…The only thing i managed to do is the follwoing Question: I installed Windows XP which i had on an old cd. From win xp i tried to install oS 13.2 via the installer. In the bootmenu i can see the 13.2. installer but when i select it, i get an error concerning the harddisk. The Error Message is simply, that there is something rotten with the harddiskconfiguration. Then the black screen appears and the system hangs. I know that it is quite special stuff because the Laptop is from the year 2006 but maybe someone knows o word about that…Thanks. Best, Benjamin. Ps.: I also tried it with the 12.2 dvd. But the same error occurs. [opensuse] booting with "console=ttyS0,115200,8n1" and without

I have a dual-Opteron box that refuses to boot unless I specify: console=ttyS0,115200,8n1 on boot-up. If I don't, the boot-up grinds to a halt somewhere in PCI initialisation. [opensuse] How ro remove ruby?

I have both Ruby1.9 and Ruby2.0 installed I want to remove ruby2.0 but when I try, zypper wants to remove a whole pile of stuff including yast. [opensuse] Something strange going on in kmail or opensuse.org list?

hi I've just received 6 emails, all according to the message list, from Basil Chupin, with the identical time stamp...? If you open them up to read, 1 is from Basil Chupin of which one appears to be the original email so correct time stamp. 5 of them are duplicate replies from James Knott and are identical in content and the time stamp is identical to Basils' original email. They are replies to Xen (whose email i haven't got yet) who replied to Basil's email. [opensuse] High load even in runlevel 1, cannot find the cause

I've noticed that my Asus Zenbook is hot all the time, even when idle. Load average never gets lower than 1.02, but mostly is 1.10. Eliminating plasma5, X, network, audio and everything else I got to runlevel 1, with only like 7 or 8 processes running, still load average is above 1.04 and spiking to 1.18 from time to time. Can anyone please suggest me some way to investigate what is going on in the system? That vulnerability does not interest OpenSuSE? [opensuse] LibreOffice lost recent files capability after a crash.

I could not open new terminals with "alt-f2", "top" didn't show any busy task, and the command "ps afxu | less -S" failed to finish and display (even in text mode). Log out from graphical mode also stuck, I had to kill the session with ctrl-alt-backspace, twice; finally reboot also failed. I had to hit the power button hard. It is not the first time this happens. On restart, LibreOffice did not display recently opened files. I thought ok, they were lost. But after editing several files, and closing and restarting it a few times, still there are no files displayed as recently used. Where should I look at? [opensuse] Disappearing mails

Hi, I have a postfix-server, with some precautions for malware. Most mails arrive without problems but recently, users are complaining about mails not arriving. When the mail is expected and when asked for it (telephone), the copy arrives OK. So it's not always the same sender(-domain). I checked the logs of postfix, nothing to see. My firewall (Watchguard) does also check for malware. I checked those logs also. Again, nothing to see. For incoming mails, my server listens to the "open internet" (I think, maybe the ISP proxies ? I'll ask). Any suggestions what I can do to investigate further ? Or can I just say it's not our fault ? Sometimes I do see a connection attempt from a ligitimate sender, but after 5 minutes, the connection interrupted because there is no data. Any explanation ? I'm very puzzled. Are registrations on Lizards.opensuse.org closed? It seems weird that the site would keep showing the sign-up link, but the real probably registration url also doesn't work. Ie. https://lizards.opensuse.org/wp-login.php?action=register also doesn't work. I don't know how to get an account, even if just to comment on the articles. Is there a way to get an account, or is that reserved to actual writers since they are the ones who are listed as "Lizards", or is it even possible to become a lizard?. But becoming an openSUSE member is not done just to start blogging there ;-). It's a shame I can't even comment there, or anyone really. I would love to have somewhere to post, but I can't really 'contribute' in that conscious, decisive, willful way. That commitment type of way. That should be something that happens out of itself because of a love for the product and the services you perform automatically in regards to it. (I used to write on the Wiki way back in 2006 perhaps :p). But those were just a personal page.. And it's certainly not something that should be done to 'earn the right' of publishing somewhere, I guess. Anyway. Idk, maybe you should be able to apply as a commenter account. "WordPress has six pre-defined roles: Super Admin, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber. Each role is allowed to perform a set of tasks called Capabilities. There are many capabilities including "publish_posts", "moderate_comments", and "edit_users". A default set of capabilities is pre-assigned to each role, but other capabilites can be assigned or removed using the add_cap() and remove_cap() functions. New roles can be introduced or removed using the add_role() and remove_role() functions." I believe a contributor is someone who can write posts but they have to be approved by an editor. A subscriber probably just has comment capabilities. So you can even have a type of cascading system, or multi-level system. You can have different kinds of Lizard accounts. Everyone who is involved with OpenSUSE has that Novell account anyway. The logins may be linked to that account, but there are still accounts in the WP system. And these accounts have different roles, or currently a single role assigned to them. If you created a different kind of application form you could easily with a slight bit of work introduce Subscriber or Contributor accounts. It would make the whole lizard system perhaps a bit more ... fresh and outstanding ;-). Also more of those lizards/authors should have avatars :-/ :(. It's not very attractive at this point. Since the hard work of linking the login to the Novell system is already done, and would work exactly the same for regular Authors and lesser accounts (in WP) it is really easy peasy and just needs a way for you (or someone who approves ) to create those lesser accounts. Then you can have guest posts, and you can also have commenters. Currently there are not even commenters, even those with Novell accounts cannot comment or assign or apply for commentorship. So actually I would suggest that type of feature. Maybe I should just mail admin@ with a request for such an account ;-). Anyway, just some thoughts. [opensuse] adjusting window title for firefox launched on remote hosts

To make it easier to distinguish the various Firefox windows I want to have the hostname in the window title. After some experiments I found that the window resulting from this command # ssh -X -t -l user $HOST firefox -new-instance will be named '<website title> - Mozila Firefox (on $HOST)', which is mostly what I want. Unfotunately I also have FF windows from localhost, like # ssh -X -t -l user localhost firefox -new-instance Here the "(on $HOST)" part is missing. Does anyone happen to know how to tell FF to put the hostname into the window title bar for localhost? Preferable in the form of "(on $USER@$HOST)".
