kde3 identity problem

This morning I started up the computer and when it got to the point of setting up the desk top the setup picture showed the various stages of setting up but the rest of the screen was blank. "File system is cleanly unmounted /dev/hdb1 has been mounted 29 times without being checked,check forced Then follows the fsck check proceedure and remount of fs Could this have any thing to do with te problem.? I" ctl alt f1" to login as root init 3 ,ran yast2 and setup a new user,init 5 and I was able to login as user2 :-) However I could not access my email etc. I went back to root and edited my original home directory name and user name and re initialised ,and I was able to access all my files but as a new user . I thought HaHa so I went back and tried renaed the username but the screens remained blank on re initialising ? How can I get my original username ? -- marking(a)paradise.net.nz Attachments destroyed automatically without viewing except by prior arrangement

Athlon Kernel

Hi all, Anyone here using or just started using the new k_athlon kernel provided my Mantel? Of course, an Athlon is needed to use it, but I am curious about the results you have gotten so far? Er... that was the whole point of the question... As you look at your KMail window, you see the message summaries displayed under a row of headings: "From" "Subject" "Date"... and some symbols that show whether the particular message has been read (open or closed envelope icon) and a little green "flag" icon to symbolize "this is more important than your average e-mail". He wants to sort all his messages and filter them according to whether that symbol is on or off. KDE 3.01 && Themes/Icons

Hi everybody out there, I just grabed me some icon themes from themes.kde.org and tried to install them as showed in the provided How-To-Install-Link. Hm .... no success! I unpacked the .tar.gz in /usr/share and browsed there by use of the KDE-Controlcenter (L&F--> Icons ... browse to location ... Install theme). When I click the "Install Theme"-button nothing happens??? First question: What file do I need to select so the Controlcenter recognizes it as a Theme (here: Crystal icon theme) Second question: What is the file "index.desktop" for Third questioin: Do I need to compile these files somehow (I neither see a config- nor a makefile) Cheers Ian

KMail custom filter actions?

Concerning the recent threads on spam handling: I would like to have a KMail filter action which would enable me to forward a message (i.e. spam) to an address (i.e. SpamCop) *as an attachment*. By default, there's only a "forward" action, no "forward as attachment" filter action. How would one go about creating such an action, if at all possible (apart from modifying KMail source)? -- !++ ! filtering exe attachments in kmail

hi, is there a way I can filter emails that have an exe attachment and move them to the trash in kmail ? I am getting several emails a week with some kind of windows virus. Kmail doesn't delete email from POP server

Hi All! I have Kmail 1.4 set up to delete email from my POP server, but it doesn't. As a result the inbox continues to grow. What could I be missing? Is it something that the server needs to support? XConsole Message RE modprobe sound

xconsole message: linux modprobe: can't locate module sound-slot-1 can't locate module sound-service-1-0 console log for linux Yast installation detected my Crystal 4236b sound card no problem and it works fine but xconsole gives me this message. KDE 3.1 neben 3.0.3 installieren

Hallo, ich würde gerne KDE 3.1 Beta neben KDE 3.0.3 installieren. Dazu richte ich ein DIR /opt/kde31 ein. Eigentlich sollte ich nun mit einem rpm -i *rpm --prefix=/opt/kde31 den SChlonz in mein System klopfen können. Doch die rpms akzeptieren entgegen der Angabe auf den Download-Seiten kein Prefix. kde 3.1-cvs howto

On request, a little mini-howto on how to compile kde from cvs It's probably a good idea to do all this in one terminal window. If you set an environment variable in one konsole window, that variable will not be set in another window, so stay in one window when you do this. First of all, make sure you have cvs installed. It is on SuSE's CDs. You also need gcc, gpp, automake, autoconf and yacc. I can't list here everything you need exactly. If you install the "development" setup in yast, you should get most, if not all of it. I never worry too much about that, because the compilation scripts will complain if you lack a certain package you need. Just install it as you go along. 1. Check out the code from cvs You need to tell cvs which server to download from, and you need to log in to it. export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.kde.org:/home/kde cvs login There is no password, so just hit enter when it asks you. You only need to login once. If you decide to update your code in two weeks you only need to do the "export", not the "login" then. make a directory where you put the source. I keep mine in /home/andjoh/src/kde-3.1. Then "cd" to that directory (in my case, "cd /home/andjoh/src/kde-3.1") Now download what you want to compile. You need the base bits, the rest is "if you feel like it". cvs co qt-copy to get an up-to-date version of qt. cvs co arts cvs co kdelibs cvs co kdebase Those three are needed. Then you can download "kdenetwork", "kdemultimedia", "kdegraphics", "kdegames", "kdeartwork", "kdeutils" "kdeaddons" and "kdeextragear-1" if you want them. But only the first three + qt-copy are actually needed to run kde. 2. Compile qt-copy You can find this info in the file README.qt-copy cd qt-copy export QTDIR=$PWD make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure -system-zlib -qt-gif -system-libpng -system-libjpeg \ -plugin-imgfmt-mng -thread -no-stl -no-g++-exceptions make symlinks sub-src sub-tools This will run for some time. 3. Compile kde First you need to decide where you're going to store the compiled binaries. I keep them in my home directory, in /home/andjoh/kde3.1 export KDEDIR=/home/andjoh/kde3.1 cd arts make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure make make install This is the magic sequence for compiling all the packages in kde. Simple, no? :) cd kdelibs make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure make make install cd kdebase make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure make make install Those four packages should be handled in that order. The procedure is exactly the same for the rest of the packages you decided to download. You can do them in any order, except that kdeaddons should be done last of all. Now, to use this, put these lines in your ~/.bashrc export KDEDIR=~/kde3.1 export QTDIR=~/src/kde3.1/qt-copy export WINDOWMANAGER=~/kde3.1/bin/startkde export PATH=$KDEDIR/bin:$PATH export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$KDEDIR/lib:$QTDIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH export KDEHOME=~/.kde31-test Log out and back in and you should see the brand new kde3.1 start up and your old kde 3.0.x settings won't be affected. Comment out those lines in .bashrc to get back to the old kde. Note: with those lines in .bashrc, kde3.1 will start up regardless of what you select from kdm. This isn't really a "nice" solution, but it was the first one I could think of :) If anyone has a better idea of how to do this in a more "SuSE" manner, please speak up :) HTH Anders
