kde doesn't print after 3.03 upgrade

Hi, yesterday I upgraded from kde3.02 to 3.03 using the files on SuSEs ftp (for SuSE 8.0). I installed all base, applications and development rpms there, which had been > August 1, 2002, except qt static. All seems to be fine except that I cannot print under kde any more. Whenever I want to print or print preview from whatever kde app, I get the error: "Could not open file:/tmp/kde-matt/kdeprint_pRe29cF" (the _pRe29cF after kdeprint does of course change everytime) However the file is there, and when I open it with kghostview, it opens fine and I can even print it from kghostview. Tested with kedit, kword1.2 and some other kde apps, always the same story. Below is the console output from kedit started from console. Yast2 printer setup does print the test page (CUPS), and also OpenOffice and other non-kde apps do print. This is a real showstopper for me, I have to print, and I cannot always go through kghostview. Any help is highly appreciated. Hi Carl, I am disappointed that you feel this way, especially as you use expletives when talking about the various problems you had. Sounds like you asked the wrong people ("Well maybe you SHOULD be running Windows if you can't figure it out...".)- deep down windows is horrible, I would never advise people to go back to it. My current pocket money comes by way of windows development and I have a lot of problems at the moment with the software we write - it works on some machines but refuses to install on identical machines! At home, I have all but given up on windows as nothing will install on it (DVD drive, Promise EIDE card, Future Domain SCSI card, T-online internet software.... the list goes on). My first hard disk died on me a few weeks back, I was able to save the info from Linux and transfer it to another drive, but Windows....wow what problems I had; Windows 95 refused to install unless I fooled it into thinking the drive was only 8.4 GB (amongst other problems) and NT kept forgetting where it was or crashing on install - there were many problems. I do everything at home in Linux now. I installed SuSE 7.1 last year when it first came out, have used Linux on and off since 1993 and I rarely have problems with it, so I would be interested in what problems you have had and why you had them; perhaps I or someone knowledgeable could help you there. I don't however respond to things such as XYZ sucks or ABC is shit. I don't think KDE, Gnome, SuSE or Linux are doomed - they still have a lot of work to do, but then so does every OpSys and they don't admit it. In looking around at the newsgroups, linuxnewbie, and /., I can tell you that we have now lost a very large new population of users because they simply could not make Linux work. Meaning problem releases like RedHat's 'C compiler' release, Mandrake's 8.0 and 8.1 releases, and Suse's 8 release. (so Mosfet quits) New releases, not BETTER releases? I'm now beyond wondering what could be wrong. I have one machine up now with Suse8/K3.0.3 and my fonts got muggered up again when I dared to install my .ttf's, just like with 7.3 . As with 7.3, one illegible font (saudi.ttf) has been substituted for display by MOST fonts. I can select any of 90% of my fonts, and they all look like saudi. WTF?! I remove saudi and then all lettering is just BLOCKS. THROUGHOUT K! Completely unusable, and no apparent place to fix it. I personally believe KDE and Gnome's inability to get their shit together has now alone doomed Linux. Patrick, thanks for the refer to Mantel, but the one Mantel I tried was busted. KDE 3.0.2 does not start

I'm using SuSE 8.0 with KDE 3.0.2 updates installed. When I try to start KDE via "startx" the KDE initialisaion screen appears but after "system resources" have been initialized KDE crashes. I'm quite new to KDE - maybe somebody can give me a hint what might be wrong or how to interpret the following error messages (this also happens with KDE 3.0 and cleaning the /tmp directory also is of no use): DCOPServer up and running. DCOP Cleaning up dead connections. Javascript in Konqeror (KDE 3.0.3)

Hello, recently I updated my 7.3 to use KDE 3.0.3. Unfortunately Javascript is not working. When I take a look in the Preferences, JS is acitvated globally, when I enter about:konqueror and take a look at the infopage it tells me that JS is deactivated globally. konquerorrc in .kde/share... reflects all changes I enter in the Preferences menue, e.g. my JavaVM is working fine. Problems installing SUSE 7.3 on my Laptop

Hi folks! Last week my dreams came true and I bought MY notebook. The last 3 days ì'm trying to install SUSE 7.3. But everytime wenn i boot the CD first everything works normal but wenn the PCMCIA SLOTS are scanned the installer shows ...done and then it stops doing anything. ???? THX Andi

KMail filtering (on a flag?)

I'd still like to set up a filter that filters on the "Important" (green) flag but don't see how this is possible. Any suggestions? -- Kevin Pfeiffer International University Bremen

In fact, I can't figure out how it is done at. The file name seems to change when the message is read, but I haven't figure out anything more. Anyone want to did through the source? Since there apparently nothing in the message itself that says it is "important" from Kmail's perspective, I don't see how you would filter on it.
