Hi again! I've been lazy solving this problem partly because I do not know the graphics system that well. I find the kernel/XFree/framebuffer/bootsplash/DRI/DRM interaction quite confusing. In your /etc/X11/XF86config which display server is used? See section "device", paramenter "driver". Is it "ati" or "radeon"? Or maybe "vesa"?

It's "ati"

If it's vesa, you have to enable the vesa framebuffer driver. If it's ati or radeon, try to check that agpgart is ok (check dmesg output)

"dmesg | grep agp" gives nothing both on the working SuSE and on the self compiled kernel. On the other hand I get an error about TIOCGDEV when I boot the kernel I compiled with the swsusp support.

and/or that the relevant DRI module is build and is working (if you're using DRI).

How can I check this (and how do I know if I'm using DRI)?
