VNC issues on suse 9.2
I'm having a problem running VNC on SuSE 9.2 with xorg 6.8.2 and KDE 3.4. I've tried enabling VNC through Yast and sax2. VNC is running, and I can connect to the server, but kdm login screen never shows up. I get the X cursor but all that is ever displayed is the grey background before kdm. Eventually the session will disconnect. After successful authentication over the java web gui, vnc does the same thing, grey screen, no kdm. I've tried recompiling xorg 6.8.2 from source but this hasn't cleared up the problem. I'm at a loss here as this is a fresh install. Any ideas? Thank you. Jake verified virus free by Usermail.com

try FreeNX, it works much faster and just better.

Ok. I've tried Free NX now, i get the same thing. I never receive a login screen. Just a grey screen with an X cursor. Any tips would be appreciated. -- Jake Sallee spark@breathdedeeply.com www.breathedeeply.com Registered Linux User #358012 http://counter.li.org Novell SuSE Linux Pro 9.2 http://www.suse.com K Desktop Environment 3.4 http://www.kde.org Linux Kernel 2.6.8 http://www.kernel.org Firefox 1.0.2 Web Browser http://www.getfirefox.com

Complete shot in the dark, but have you tried setting DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS to yes in the YaST /etc/sysconfig module? -- Steve Boddy

Why not try another solution? IF both, server and client are Linux, run your own session on the server with DISPLAY set to your Client. Or is it absolutely necessary to see the running session of the mentioned server?
Thank you.
