since installing SuSE 8.2 a couple of month ago I occassionally experience system freezes when performing certain tasks under X (e.g. watching certain pages with Mozilla, trying to turn off the background image in KDE, etc.). Is this a stock install of 8.2?
Yes, and, BTW, I installed SuSE 8.2 three times on that machine (due to HD changes) but I had the same problems each time.
Are you completely up to date? I ask this because the SLE had several emails about freezes and what not. But then a couple weeks ago they released a new package of the X server and I haven't seen any freezing complaints since. I would upgrade if you haven't.
I just did another YOU update and made sure that all X-server related stuff gets updated. However, the problem persists.
If you have then it could be something else. How about a complete list of the hardware in the machine.
After you did the upgrades did you restart KDM since I see you start your machine at run level 5? If you do the upgrades inside KDE but just log out of KDE without restarting KDM then you've not loaded the new X server. KDM uses the X server to display if it's not restarted then you don't load the new fixes. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
