As might be noticed in https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2017-08/msg00407.html and https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1025725 and elsewhere, the online upgrade procedure is anything but foolproof. In that mailing list thread at https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2017-08/msg00410.html I noted my variations on the described procedure intended to make it more reliable. I'm considering including components of my procedure as alternative options in the "official" offline procedure in the wiki, essentially replacing
zypper dup
with at a minimum
zypper in zypper libzypp rpm libsolv-tools zypper dup
Any comments?

We still lack official confirmation of what is the alleged "upgrade workflow" by the assignee with a suse.de address in the bugzilla.
Any upgrade method we document could be said "invalid" and bugs closed.
We need that information before correcting the wiki.
And no, the «"official" offline procedure in the wiki» is not official either, as it was me who wrote it - unless it is some other article I'm not aware of.

That's why I stuck 'official' in quotes.

I'm not sure there is any official online procedure for upgrading from any distribution release to TW. The "official" procedure(s) may be limited to what https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/startup/html/book.opensuse.startup/cha.inst.html#sec.i.yast2.method describes. https://www.google.com/search?q=upgrade+from+opensuse+distribution+release+to+tumbleweed&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:unofficial turns up no opensuse.org hits among the first 50.

Perhaps this issue would get more visibility if it was discussed on the opensuse-factory list? I find the opensuse-wiki list is not followed closely by those that maintain the package management software.
