Rats. I was hoping there was just some change in the syntax.
Here is the kernel log for the new kernel (2.6.37). You're correct
that I no longer have the old kernel installed. From my limited
research on the subject I think the entry "[ 0.188870] pci
0000:04:00.1: reg 10: [mem 0xfe6fec00-0xfe6fecff]" means that the
offending device is not being realigned, otherwise it would start on a
multiple of 0x1000. The only kernel messages when I create the VM is
the NIC going into promiscuous mode and forwarding state. I would
appreciate any advice or suggestions that come to mind.
Thanks,
Shanti

[opensuse-virtual] PCI resource alignment command changed in 11.4? (non-page-aligned MMIO error)
by Shanti Kulkarni 22 Sep '11

I have a Dom0 which I upgraded from 11.2 (with OBS 4.0.2 Xen packages) to 11.4. One of my PVMs has a PCI card passed through. After the upgrade I am getting "non-page-aligned MMIO BAR" errors when attempting to launch that VM with the same kernel command line. Is there a different way to tell the kernel this information?
I was passing a PCI USB/firewire card which had three PCI IDs: 04:00.0 (USB), 04:00.1 (USB 2), and 04:01.0 (firewire). Before upgrading, I could avoid that error and start the domain using the pci=resource_alignment kernel parameter in grub:
module /vmlinuz-2.6.37.6-0.7-xen root=/dev/sys/root elevator=deadline swiotlb=force,256 iommu=soft pciback.permissive pciback.hide=(00:14.2)(04:00.0)(04:00.1)(04:01.0) pci=resource_alignment=00:14.2;04:00.0;04:00.1;04:01.0 radeon.modeset=0 vga=0x317
After upgrading, I this error when launching the PVM: "0000:04:00.1: non-page-aligned MMIO BAR found." I have tried changing the syntax of the resource_alignment command. I have also tried using other commands, such as reassigndev= and reassign_resources.
I tried setting "(pci-passthrough-strict-check no)" in xend-config.sxp. Then the PVM launched, but oopsed when udev loaded.
Has this command changed, or is it's syntax different? I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Here's some of the packages on my Dom0:
kernel-xen-2.6.37.6-0.7.1.x86_64
kernel-xen-base-2.6.37.6-0.7.1.x86_64

Hi,
I've got no problems launching Opensuse DpmU Guests on top of my
Opensuse Dom0.
I need to install a Centos6 DomU guest now on the same box, using a .cfg
file.
For the initial installation, I just modified my cfg to be:
name = 'install'
builder = 'linux'
bootloader = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/domUloader.py'
bootargs = '--entry=xvda1:vmlinuz-xen,/boot/initrd-xen'
disk = [
'file:/home/gk/Downloads/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-minimal.iso,hdc:cdrom,r',
'phy:/dev/VG0/CentosLV,xvda,w']
...
but I've read that the domUloader.py is an Opensuse-specific bootloader?
Is this the right .cfg for a Centos6 Domu?

[opensuse-virtual] Guest launches manually OK, not on System reboot when config is in /etc/xen/auto ?

Hi,
I've gotten my 1st VM up & running on Opensuse 11.4 (both Dom0 & Guest)
mostly the way I want it.
I can bring it up/down manually from the shell command line with no
problems, but starting from /etc/xen/auto isn't working. After system
boot only the Dom0 is started, not the Guest.
To troubleshoot I tried:
service xendomains stop
Shutting down Xen domains
WARNING: xend is running! It is not recommended using libxenlight in
conjunction with the legacy xend toolstack. Use -f (force) to override
WARNING: xend is running! It is not recommended using libxenlight in

done
service xendomains start
Starting auto Xen domains
mail.cfg: WARNING: xend is running! It is not recommended using
libxenlight in
conjunction with the legacy xend toolstack. Use -f (force) to override
WARNING: xend is running! It is not recommended using libxenlight in
conjunction with the legacy xend toolstack. Use -f (force) to override
failed
At this point there's no Guest launched:
xm list
Name ID Mem VCPUs State
Time(s)
Domain-0 0 1010 1 r-----
50.0
I 'tail -f /var/log/xen/*log /var/log/messages' to try to see more
detail about what's happening at the 'service xendomains restart', but
there's no output at all. I only get that feedback at the shell where I
exec the command.
Looking online I found this thread by <Jim Fehlig>:
[openFATE 311112] libvirt driver for new xen toolstack
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-features/2011-03/msg00212.html
Which talks about 'libxenlight' & 'legacy' stack on Opensuse. A bit
over my head at this early stage :-/
I have these xen-related packages installed on the Host:
rpm -qa | grep -i xen
xen-tools-4.1.2_01-143.1.x86_64
kernel-xen-2.6.37.6-0.7.1.x86_64
xen-4.1.2_01-143.1.x86_64
kernel-xen-devel-2.6.37.6-0.7.1.x86_64
xen-kmp-default-4.1.2_01_k2.6.37.6_0.7-143.1.x86_64
xen-libs-4.1.2_01-143.1.x86_64
Is this all related to my not being able to auto-launch the Guest? Or
is it something else?
How can I get more, or any, debug information that's useful?
Thanks,
Greg

Hi, anybody with more insight on this project can tell me if there's
any relationship?, I know Ganeti and Opennebula overlaps, but not
sure about the others..

Hi all,
In order to create a -more or less- representative test configuration, I
tried to copy a real life situation into a xen-set-up:
-external firewal (kc3040)
-openvpn server (kc3072)
-Internal firewall (kc3041)
-management gateway (kc3075)
-asterisk pabx
-mysql server
To simulate different networks, I created dummy ethernet devices, and
connected bridges to it.
All of the four bridges are working OK, except ONE: BR2 and also only
from one virtual machine: openvpn/kc3072
If i ping on the vpn-box (vpn is not setup yet) towards internal
firewall i see no traffic at all ( 172.16.100.1 => 172.16.100.2 )
Even if i do an tcpdump on the bridge-device from DOM-0, i dont see
anything.
On the otherhand, if i do a ping the otherway round (int-fw towards vpn)
i see the icmp-request on the bridge device (but no repy, hence the
problem)
Looked at [internal] firewall, at the bridges, routing, but i'm
clue-less….
Tried to move the whole configuration towards a different DOM-0, with
the same result, rebuild the vpn-dom-U: still no show
All firewall's are down.
All boxes are suse: both firewals are open_11.4, mgnt+vpn are sles11sp1
and dom0 is also sles, but tried also with open.
Tried the lists at xen, but the only replies were questions what i used
to make the drawing ;-)
Any suggestion where to look next?
Kind regards, Hans
Oh, btw config of the vpn-box (kc3072) is as follows:

Hello Everyone!
Been looking around the internet but have not found a solution for my
problem yet, all i found was a report on opensuse forums with no replays.
I have a Xen dom0 running on OpenSuse 11.4 x86_64, on this I’ve created
3 PV instances all running OpenSuse 11.4 x86_64 as well. All 3 PVs were
installed the same way with the same package selection and only ONE of
this 3 PVs hangs at booting time just before the login screen should appear.
I looked at the log files of the VM, when it hangs and when it boots
normally, i copied and compared the logs (boot.msg, messages, ...) but i
am not able to find anything substantial.
A work around this problem seems to be - destroy VM, start VM, and keep
going until eventually the VM starts up correctly.
For testing purposes I’ve installed a PV with OpenSuse 11.3 x86_64. This
VM runs normally, boots OK every time.
Any of you experienced anything like that? Any idea what else i could
check? Any info / help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
David Gerbec
