Open vSwitch is backwards compatible with normal bridging, but more integration work is necessary to take advantage of its advanced functionality.

Ganeti, OpenNebula, and OpenStack are somewhat similar in function (cloud orchestration), but appear to serve different specific audiences and use cases.

A couple other projects that you might want to have on your list of open source cloud projects are:

Nimbus XCP CloudStack OpenQRM Zentific Abiquo

XCP has Open vSwitch support. OpenStack and XCP also work together. CloudStack and XCP work together.

Can you elaborate on "different specific audiences", I would like to know which would be the best path to build our own cloud service for example... Ganeti sounds nice and has HA support with DRBD, but node count is expected to be low from what I've read. OpenNebula brags about features/maturity/API for integration and I've seen those other projects also frequently referenced...
