Hi Torsten,
This is strange, if I click on “Alter Channel subscription” of any registered system, I have then a screen split in 2 columns, the left one being to change the Base channel:
Base Channel
You can change the base software channel your system is subscribed to. The system will be unsubscribed from all software channels, and subscribed to the new base software channel.
(none, disable service)
Custom Channels
CentOS 7 (x86_64)
CentOS 8 (x86_64)
openSUSE Leap 15.2 (x86_64)
And the right one for the Childs Channel:
Child Channels
This system is subscribed to the checked channels beneath, if any. Disabled checkboxes indicate channels that can't be manually subscribed or unsubscribed from.
openSUSE Leap 15.2 (x86_64)
openSUSE 15.2 non oss (x86_64)
openSUSE Leap 15.2 non oss Updates (x86_64)
openSUSE Leap 15.2 Updates (x86_64)
Uyuni Client Tools for openSUSE Leap 15.2 (x86_64)
Uyuni Proxy Stable for openSUSE Leap 15.2 (x86_64)
Don’t you have that ?
Regards,
Philippe.

Out of my depth now. I've got Centos and Oracle Linux boxes. My one SUSE box is the server itself. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Okay, this decribes the upgrade from SLES12 to SLES15SP2. It’s the same for openSUSE Leap clients? To update vom 15.1 to 15.2?
That’s too much for a few clients. I will update the clients on the cli by changing the repos. This was my first plan, too. The orignal question was, how to change the base channel in the gui. I have no option to select the base channel for Leap 15.2. So I have to re-register them with a new activation key.

Now I want to update some registered clients.

I don't think upgrading the server will cause any issues with your registered clients. You upgrade the server, then you upgrade Uyuni to 2020.07, which has a set of instructions unto itself, and then you should be good to go.

Hi,
okay, no problem to update the server through the cli on the server. But at the end I have to change the base channel in Uyuni … and I can’t.
Or must I re-register the server after the update?
But at the moment all repos point to the uyuni server. So I have to disable them and reactivate the original repos, which point to the internet?

SInce it is a service pack, you may not be able to do it through Uyuni. You might be able to script it, but here is the guide I used.

And both channels were created as SUSE product; not through spacewalk-common-channels.

Not sure, but maybe the leap15.2 channel is another architecture than the
leap15.1 channel your system is currently using.

Betreff: [uyuni-users] RE: Upgrade openSUSE Leap
Hi,
I tried it, but in the GUI I can't change the base channel to openSUSE Leap 15.2.
In the dialog under SUSE-channels openSUSE Leap 15.1 is activated and under
custom channels I see CentOS. I can't choose other base channels. And yes,
there is an openSUSE 15.2 channel, created in the GUI, under admin | products.
This channel is also synchronized. But I can't choose it as new base channel for
the system.

Hi
I usually first update to the latest packages of the current release,
then attach the channels of the new release and simply run "zypper
dist-upgrade" on the client.

Hi,
what is the right way to upgrade openSUSE Leap 15.1 to 15.2 using Uyuni?
I mean a client, not the Uyuni server.
