I think that's the problem. I am adding Michael Calmer so he can clarify (for some reason I thought he already wrote at this thread, maybe it was at an issue at GitHub).
If you are using openSUSE as a SUSE Product, then is that (at least for now) a limitation on SCC, as (IIRC) there is not migration path right now.

Yes, SCC defines the update path from Leap to SLES as this was the product requirement for SLES. Now with Uyuni we have also the requirement to provide the upgrade path from Leap n to Leap n+1 .
So, I think, using common-channels is more flexible and I'm independant from SCC. I will change the base channels for my openSUSE Leap machines. For my SLES machines I still have to use SCC. Torsten
