SuSE 10.0, KDE 3.5.1 I have tried to create some custom K-Menu entries and although they show in the editor they will not show in the menu tree. Is there some setting blocking the ability of a user to add menu items? I also have Codeweavers CXO installed and the user K-Menu items associated with that app do not show as well. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
I don't know if you have had any direct replies. I noticed a couple of items missing from the multimedia section, namely, k3b and volume control. However, they were there in the editor. I moved the volume control to another location and then did a save, and then everything was back. I moved the volume control back to it's original location and it has remained visible. I've got a feeling there are items missing from other sections but I haven't checked it out as yet. My guess is that either something has got overwritten or a config file failed to be created during the update. Don't know, haven't checked anything out, just guesses at the mo. Hope that helps. The main culprit on my system is Codeweavers Crossover Office. When I use the Menu Editor the entries show up, but they do not show in the menu tree. I did find a couple of entries on CXO's website blaming SUSE for doing something different in KDE. But it is not my place to place blame, I only want to know why items show when using the KDE menu editor but fail to appear when using the menu. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Ken, I had similar problems in the past. I found that the missing menu tree icons for the MS applications (Word, Excel, etc.) would magically reappear if I reinstalled Crossover Office. Can't explain why. It just happened. Gil

Yes I did. Even had a reboot in there because of a new kernel download, no difference. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

I've tried a few distributions over the years and this effect is not limited to SuSE. I've come to the conclusion that if the program is not in the standard install list, then, there is a chance it will not show in the menu list. I've also come across this problem when installing a gnome app in a kde desktop and also the other way round, kde app in gnome desktop. Could it be that the various distributions have the menu system set up to expect only certain programs to be installed? Peter C

Hello: I have similar experinece very recently. I have installed the suse version of openoffice 2.0 by yast. But there are no office startup icons in start menu/office (eg oo writer start icon). Is not there a method in kde to recreate the startup menu items? I used to run redhat / fedora before moving to SUSE. I saw this issue a feew versions back with fedora - the fix was to delete the hidden directory .config in your home directory and then logout and log back in. KDE will generate the menu's in the absence of the .config dir and then the menu editor should work properly

No difference. There are two submenus that are there when I open menu editor but never show in K-menu. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
