[SuSE Linux] JDK 1.1.4+ in SuSE5.2 or 5.3?
I'd like to use it, but have only found it in RedHat/Glibc2 versions. More appropriately, I'm looking to install it so that I can run ICQ for Java. If there is another way to have full-featured ICQ in SuSE until they get off thier buts and make the X version available, that'd help me too! :) Thanks. -Art Coates Jr. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Try Micq or Licq. There are several ICQ's available. The first works from the console, the 2nd works in X and uses QT. I hate the Java ports cause they're bloated and slow. 2 Cents. On Sun, 16 Aug 1998, Art Coates Jr. wrote:

You may use the ICQ package for Java on Mirabilis. You need to install the JDK package from the SuSE 5.2 distribution. I have used it and it works fine. However, there are other programs available that are not dependent of JDK and therefore use less memory, e.g. Licq, Micq, and another one especially for KDE. regards, Ruud. -- Money is the root of all evil. regards, Ruud. If one already uses JDK for stuff, it makes sense to use the Java port. If one doesn't there are less resource intensive versions, that make more sense to use IMHO. To me it seems silly to install JDK just to use an ICQ client, if only because of the bloat in disc space. um, that's why I recomended the nonjava alternatives, which there are quite a few, not just LICQ, and MICQ either.
