Cannot help you so far, Jason. But: You seem to be into ISA-SCSI burning CDs? How can you estimate whether your ISA speed is fast enough? (Have Adaptec isa 1505 and Teac 4x burner, is that able to work out properly)
Got the same ISA SCSI card (aha1542 with 1540CF/1542CF V2.01 BIOS). Couldn't get freaking card to work either..... Did the following: A) insmod isa-pnp B) insmod aha1542 C) tried to mount a CD and the system froze complete. Only cure was to push the reset button..... Still running under 2.2.18...... Atleast it works some what...... Could you test this also under kernel 2.2.18???? A) open your CDRW and put a CD in it. B) don't close the drive. Try to mount the cd. C) drive should close and try to mount the cd. Could you tell me what happens???? With me it try's to mount the cd into infinitie.... Also need a reboot to get access to my cd drive.... Oops. I got put off by the mention of /dev/sda1. I thought that didn't look right... Yes, it should be /dev/scd0 that you want to try an mount. And I would reitterate that you (Jason) should try using modprobe to load the module. Oh yes, and when you run the cdrecord command, make sure you're root.
