I have a Logitech 2-button optical wheel mouse. 9.1 autodetects it as correct mouse, but the wheel does not work. I looked at /etc/X11/XF86Config, and tinkered with protocol, ZaxisMapping, buttons, etc., but I cannot get the wheel to function. Any ideas? Ed Harrison SuSE 9.0, Kernel 2.6.5 PolarBar Mailer 1.25a

Can you verify that the imwheel package is installed? -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)

I had the same problem with my Logitech optical mouse with scroll wheel and usb connection. The solution for me was to go into YaST and change the mouse type from Logitech optical mouse (which it is) to Intelli/Wheel mouse (USB). After I made this change, the wheel worked correctly. The mouse section of my XF86Config file looks like: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "ButtonNumber" "2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection I believe that you will need the protocol "imps/2" for the wheel to work. This is what mine says, except: Option "Name" ""USB-Mouse;IMPS/2 on USB" and I don't think its name should effect functionality, right? Ed Harrison SuSE 9.0, Kernel 2.6.5 PolarBar Mailer 1.25a
I believe the imps/2 should be Explorerps/2. In my Suse 9.0, it is imps/2, but this did not work in 9.1 for the very reason you said. I changed it to Explorerps/2 and it started worked. Here is the entry from my xf86.config. This is also for USB wheel mouse. <>Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[3]" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "Explorerps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Art Ed Harrison wrote:

go in yast, hardware, graphic card and screen (or just start sax) select mouse, open "for experienced" tab on far right, select mouse wheel

I see and "Expert" tab. "Enable Wheel" is already checked. This is a frustrating experience. Ed Harrison SuSE 9.1, Kernel 2.6.5-17.14-default PolarBar Mailer 1.25a

Check your XF86Config file. Mine is: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "ButtonNumber" "5" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Notice the line Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" A previous posting said to try IMPS/2, but on my computer with SuSE 9.1 that setting didn't work and ExplorerPS/2 seems to do the trick. Hope that helps. -- Brian Craft Yahoo Instant Messenger ID: bcraft67 AIM: linuxman67 Website: http://userdata.acd.net/javaman67/ Linux Counter id: 97873 Linux......the OS of Choice!

OTHER SYMPTOMS: Changes to Monitor Resolution did not take effect. VMWare warned that extmod (XFree86 DGA) was not enabled (it was in /etc/X11/XF86Config). DPMS was not working, even though / etc/X11/XF86Config had the options set for DPMS, BlankTime, StandbyTime and SuspendTime. After much delving into this problem, I found that YaST2 and I were fiddling with the wrong X configuration file. Maybe 9.1 uses the xorg version of X, or I did something to invoke this, but the config file I needed was /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I created it in text mode with xf86cfg. When I finished tweaking this file, EVERYTHING works like it did before upgrade to 9.1 from 9.0. Ed Harrison SuSE 9.1, Kernel 2.6.5-17.14-default PolarBar Mailer 1.25a
