Actually there is a new version of instmon (2.0, URL: http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/admin/instmon-2.0.tar.gz) which use the installwatch program written by a friend of mine Pancrazio 'Ezio' De Mauro. This latter program can be downloaded at http://datanord.datanord.it/~pdemauro/installwatch/installwatch-0.5.5.tar.gz
I will surely take a look, but not immediately (being busy on other things). Thanks for sharing these references with us. Meanwhile, I wanted to say that I use `stow' while doing local installations, and I'm quite satisfied using it. It's simple, and tries to well do the little it does. The idea of `stow' is that you install everything within `/usr/local/stow/PACKAGE', say, and `stow' establishes many symbolic links to make your package work. To get rid of that locally installed package, you may just recursively delete `/usr/local/stow/PACKAGE' (and you can use `stow' to delete the links). My notes say that `stow' is available at: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/stow/stow-1.3.2.tar.gz and its mirrors, of course. -- François Pinard http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~pinard -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
